Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Papi Squalli! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Longboat! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Longboat walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Longboat has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Squalli throws a combination that misses and Longboat counters with a takedown into side control. Longboat tries for a kimura but Squalli is defending well. Squalli is trying to buck Longboat off. Squalli is not content to let Longboat control the position. Longboat prevents Squalli from escaping the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Longboat wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Squalli, who protects the arm well. Longboat looks winded! Squalli is trying to buck Longboat off.
That's one minute gone in the round. Longboat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Squalli keeps working. Longboat thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Squalli knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. That's two minutes gone in the round. Longboat tries to move to mount but Squalli blocks the move with his legs. Squalli is trying to get back to his feet. Longboat is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Squalli is trying to escape and Longboat transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Squalli is forced to tap! Nice work there by Longboat! Very nice indeed!
