PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Uki Goshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam Colt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Uki Goshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Liam Colt!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Goshi drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Colt had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Goshi is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Colt Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Goshi's back instead.
Colt doesn't have the hooks in and Goshi manages to turn into his guard.

Colt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Goshi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Goshi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Colt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Colt looking for a guillotine here but Goshi defends easily.

Goshi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Goshi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Goshi lands in his opponent's guard.
Colt wants to stand but Goshi is controlling the position.
Goshi is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Goshi stands and throws Colt's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Goshi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Goshi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Goshi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Colt is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Goshi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Colt has escaped the position, nice work there.
Colt is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Goshi off and has taken his back!
Goshi controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Colt's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Colt scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

Colt has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Goshi has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Goshi tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Colt is going olschool here, as he tries to force Goshi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Goshi shrugs it off.

Goshi is working hard here to advance position.
Colt can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Goshi is looking to escape.

Goshi landing small, sideways elbows.

Goshi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Uki Goshi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Goshi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Colt pushes down on Goshi's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Colt seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Goshi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Colt looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Goshi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Colt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Colt wants to get up but he can't break Goshi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Goshi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Colt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Colt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Goshi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Colt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Goshi manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Goshi moves into range and clinches up with Colt.
Goshi has had enough of the clinch but Colt keeps him there for the moment.
Colt doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Colt has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Goshi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Goshi drags the fight down to the ground.

Colt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Colt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Colt blocks a head kick by Goshi.
Colt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Goshi swivels and escapes.
Uki Goshi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Colt.

Nice takedown defense from Goshi. No joy for Colt on that attempt.
Uki Goshi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Colt tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Colt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Colt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Goshi keeps working.

Colt feints and as Goshi raises his hands in defense, Colt changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Goshi is trying to keep Colt in close.

Goshi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Colt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Colt thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Goshi will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Goshi lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Colt!

Goshi lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Poor strikes thrown by Goshi there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
BOOM! Goshi connects with a massive shot to the dome!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Colt tries to hold on but Goshi postures up.
Colt bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Goshi has his foot on Colt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Colt works his way back into a safe position though.

Goshi isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Colt stacks Goshi on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Colt!

Colt thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Goshi wants to get back to his feet but Colt drags him back down.
Goshi is looking for a sweep.
Goshi pushes Colt away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Colt gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Liam Colt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Goshi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
