Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Raymon Carter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bruce Chang! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carter tries to clinch there but Chang circles away.
Carter misses with an attempted mid kick.
A nice leg kick lands there from Chang. Chang lands with a slapping head kick.
It looks like Raymon Carter has been cut. Chang misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Carter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carter is keen to just control but Chang is a slippery customer. Chang wants to get back to full guard. Chang works his way to full guard. Good work. Chang lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Carter! Carter tries to hold on but Chang postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chang wants to control the pace but Carter is squirming around nicely. Carter is looking to improve his position but Chang isn't that keen on the idea. Carter wants to hold on but Chang pushes him away. Carter is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Chang can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carter is looking to escape. Carter is wriggling around trying to escape.
Chang moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Carter has worked his arm free - good work by Carter!
Carter tries to buck Chang off but Chang is having none of it. Chang is looking to take a break and control but Carter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Carter is trying to control Chang's posture but Chang avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carter is trying to improve his position. Chang wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Carter, who protects the arm well. Carter regains half guard there - taking advantage of Chang's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Carter is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Chang pulls his head out easily. Chang is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Chang wants to pass the guard but Carter is defending well. Chang passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Carter! Chang avoids the attempt from Carter to control. Carter is trying desperately to improve position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bruce Chang dominated that round. The cut man is working on Raymon Carter's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Chang dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Carter. That did some damage! An inside leg kick lands from Chang. Chang throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Chang throws out a powerful jab. Chang throws a quick inside leg kick. Chang throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Carter's head.
Carter is rocked!
Raymon Carter's cut is getting worse. Chang looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Carter tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Chang fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Carter on the side of the head. Bruce Chang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Carter walks into a stiff left hand from Chang. Oh Carter is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! A good leg kick by Chang. Carter seems to have got his legs back now. Chang scores with a kick to the midsection. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Carter walks forward, straight into a front kick from Chang. A nice inside leg kick there by Chang. That's going to slow Carter down. An inside leg kick lands from Chang.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chang sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Carter to the ground! Chang dives into full mount looking to finish!
Raymon Carter's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Chang wants to control the pace but Carter is squirming around nicely. Chang looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Chang wants to get back to his feet but Carter is holding on tight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carter tries to hold on but Chang pushes him away. Chang looking to control but Carter is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Chang is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Chang extends the arm and Carter is forced to tap!
