Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Cooper (ranked 793 p4p, 497 weight class) and Hero Shima (ranked 103 p4p, 70 weight class). Cooper comes into the arena with Tale of Cu Chulainn blaring out of the sound system. Shima has chosen C. R. E. A. M as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sam Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hero Shima!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Ben Watson and Chris Dean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Shima.
It looks like Sam Cooper has been cut.
Cooper has managed to clinch.
Shima lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cooper backwards.

Shima throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cooper escapes and throws Shima's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Cooper has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Cooper wants to control but Shima is keeping him busy.

Shima manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cooper's best efforts.
Shima has a hand on Cooper's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Cooper takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Shima sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Shima tries to keep at a distance but Cooper has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cooper lands a body punch in the clinch.
Shima gets underhooks to prevent Cooper's takedown attempt.

Cooper is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Cooper blocks a punch to the side of the head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Shima creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Shima lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Shima lands with a short shot to the head.
Shima misses with an elbow over the top.

A body shot lands from Shima.
Cooper is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Shima gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Cooper drops down looking for an ankle pick but Shima pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cooper moves to clinch but Shima breaks away
and Shima counters with a stiff right hand.

Cooper moves into the clinch successfully.
Shima doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Shima misses with a hook to the ribs.
Shima lands a nice uppercut.
Cooper has clasped his hands together around Shima's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Shima is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Shima is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cooper pulls his head out easily.
Shima wants to get back to full guard.

Cooper stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Shima to get to his feet.

Nice sprawl there from Shima as Cooper shoots in.
Cooper darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Cooper uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shima.
Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch but Shima swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shima swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Cooper fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shima, pushing him back against the cage.
Shima misses with a hook to the ribs.
Shima jumps into guard, dragging Cooper to the mat.

Sam Cooper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shima's corner calls for a 1-2. Shima obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Shima throws a big shot that misses.
Cooper closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Shima is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cooper off and has taken his back!
Shima is persistently looking for the submission but Cooper is defending it well.
Shima looking for the choke but no joy.
Shima is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Cooper is tapping out! This one is all over!
