PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ronny Frester (ranked 4475 p4p, 24060 weight class) and Gajah Mada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mada has chosen Fighter Mode as his entrance music. Gajah Mada is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ronny Frester!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gajah Mada!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Frester enables Mada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Frester manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Frester is on top in guard.

Frester trying to control the position from guard on top but Mada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Frester drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mada dives on top into guard.

Mada wants to stand but Frester has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Frester looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mada is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Frester managing to control the position.
Frester wants to sweep here but Mada controlling him for the moment.
Frester has control of Mada's left arm, preventing Mada from doing any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mada has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Frester is proving hard to escape from.
Frester wants to sweep but no luck.
Frester pulls Mada in close to prevent any damage.
Mada wants to control from the top but Frester keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mada manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Frester on his heels. He'll look to pass Frester's guard now, I'm sure.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Frester holds on and takes a little breather.
Frester's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Frester might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Further stalling from Frester.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gajah Mada dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mada dives in and scores a takedown into Frester's guard.
Frester wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mada passes Frester's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frester gets back to full guard.
Mada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mada looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Mada must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Frester pulls Mada in close to prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mada trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Frester manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Frester controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Frester is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Frester drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mada looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mada looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mada!

Mada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Frester keeps working.

Frester is looking for a sweep.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gajah Mada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Mada closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Frester to the mat! Frester manages to get full guard.
Frester looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Frester looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mada changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Frester looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Frester is trying to get back to half guard.
Mada tries to stand but Frester is controlling his head.
Frester is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mada in the domination position with Frester hanging on.
Frester manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Frester is concentrating on defense, preventing Mada from advancing position.
Frester manages to get to full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mada wants to stand but Frester is controlling his posture from full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mada drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ronny Frester has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gajah Mada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Gajah Mada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
