PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frog Face Jiminez (ranked 2975 p4p, 3275 weight class) and Franklin Mironi (ranked 352 p4p, 385 weight class). Franklin Mironi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frog Face Jiminez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franklin Mironi!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mironi throws a lazy right hand but Jiminez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A nice combination there by Mironi.
Jiminez takes one on the button.

Mironi closes the distance and clinches.

Mironi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jiminez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mironi to the ground. Jiminez is now in Mironi's guard.
Jiminez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mironi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jiminez has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Jiminez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mironi is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jiminez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Mironi's face as Jiminez controls the position.

Jiminez swings around for an armbar but Mironi sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Jiminez's guard.

Jiminez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mironi is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mironi is not content to let Jiminez control the position.
Mironi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jiminez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mironi has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jiminez but great work by Mironi.

Franklin Mironi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jiminez needs to keep his hands up - Mironi had a free shot at his head there.

Jiminez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mironi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jiminez is in Mironi's guard.
Jiminez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mironi's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mironi is looking to control Jiminez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mironi avoid being mounted?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mironi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jiminez is working away from the top position though.

Jiminez is working for a kimura here but Mironi manages to reverse the position and he's now in Jiminez's guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mironi working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Franklin Mironi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Franklin Mironi.
Well Mironi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
