Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gaston Chevarie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Romano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romano is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Almost Easy -- Avenged Sevenfold. Matt Romano is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Romano! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Chevarie.
Romano uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Chevarie. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Romano shoots for a double leg takedown but Chevarie sprawls well. He's pushed Romano's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Romano takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Romano shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Gaston Chevarie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Danga de danga de dang - Chevarie scores with a four punch combination!
It looks like Matt Romano has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Romano fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Chevarie swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Romano bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Chevarie is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Romano asserts his dominance and retains side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chevarie had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Romano shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chevarie as he avoids it easily. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Chevarie takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. That's better than Romano was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Chevarie is controlling an arm, preventing Romano from taking his back. Chevarie wants to get up but he can't break Romano's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Romano is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chevarie's guard. Chevarie keeping full guard, as Romano tries to pass. Chevarie has his feet on Romano's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Chevarie stuffs the takedown. Chevarie darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Chevarie looks to land a combination but Romano avoids it well. The fighters circling - Chevarie throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Romano closes the distance and clinches up with Chevarie, looking for a takedown. Romano pushes Chevarie against the cage but Chevarie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chevarie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chevarie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Romano is looking for a triangle but Chevarie pushes his legs off easily.

Chevarie has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Romano controls Chevarie momentarily but Chevarie frees himself. Chevarie misses with a straight left. Romano drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Romano goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chevarie has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Romano but great work by Chevarie. Chevarie decides to take the fight back to the feet. Chevarie looks to land a right hand but Romano moved out of range. Chevarie throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Romano. Romano is looking to slow Chevarie down with leg kicks. Good leg kick by Romano there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Romano throws a strike aimed at the side of Chevarie's head but Chevarie avoids it well. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

He's almost out here... but no, Romano gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Romano working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Romano on a fantastic submission victory.
