This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 9 losses; Bart Cubbedge ! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 6 losses; Rico Cole! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Matheus Silva.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cole moves into the clinch. Cubbedge gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Cubbedge (2) vs (0) Cole Cubbedge controlling from the top position. Cubbedge has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Cole pulls Cubbedge in close to his closed guard and prevents Cubbedge from doing any damage or advancing position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cole looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cubbedge is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cole looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Cole is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Cubbedge (2) vs (2) Cole Cole is taking a breather. Cubbedge says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Cole trying to control from half guard but Cubbedge is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is trying to maintain the position but Cole is very close to passing his half guard. Cole tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cubbedge knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Cole controlling the action here. Cubbedge is looking for a sweep. Cole is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Cole is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is staying active underneath Cole, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Cubbedge won't allow Cole to pass to mount. Cubbedge manages to get to full guard.
Cole not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Cubbedge has Cole pulled in close to control his posture.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cole looking to pass the guard. Cole looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Cubbedge has control of Cole's left arm, preventing Cole from doing any damage.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cubbedge has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cole is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cubbedge . Score +3 for passing guard: Cubbedge (2) vs (5) Cole The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cubbedge is looking for a sweep. Cole tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cole's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Cole! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Cubbedge has tapped! This one is allllll over!
