This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 12 losses; Joshua Brown! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 7 losses; Yuri Boshtok! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Brown pushes Boshtok up against the cage in a clinch. Boshtok wants a takedown.
Brown jumps guard.
Boshtok is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Boshtok stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard. Boshtok stopping the sweep attempt from Brown. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boshtok controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Brown is trying to keep Boshtok in close.
Boshtok trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. My spies in X-Mansion inform me that Boshtok has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Boshtok is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Boshtok tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard. Let's hope that Boshtok has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Boshtok. Boshtok trying to control the position but Brown is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boshtok in side control, just content to control the action for now. Brown tries to bench press Boshtok off him but Boshtok keeps the position. Boshtok trying to control the action but Brown is working from the bottom. Boshtok is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Brown's shoulder. That is not cool.

Boshtok is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Brown will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Boshtok's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Boshtok is looking to take a break and control but Brown is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Brown stalling away here and it's allowed Boshtok to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Boshtok can't keep his opponent in guard - Brown advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Boshtok trying to control but Brown postures up.

Boshtok is staying active underneath Brown, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Brown is pressing down on Boshtok's thigh, looking to free his foot. Boshtok is holding on for now. Brown is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Brown is trying to control. Boshtok wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Boshtok is controlling Brown's trapped leg to prevent Brown from advancing to side control. Brown looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Brown has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. This is a sustained period of stalling by Brown. Brown trying to control from half guard but Boshtok is working away. Brown content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Brown trying to advance position but Boshtok counters by regaining guard.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Brown forces his way into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brown in particular looking to stall. Boshtok has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brown is working away from the top position though. Boshtok has his hands clasped together around Brown's back. He's all about the action. Brown stalling away here and it's allowed Boshtok to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Brown is fighting to break Boshtok's control of his arms but Boshtok is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Boshtok bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brown's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Brown (2) vs (5) Boshtok Brown tries to land a sweep but no joy. Boshtok wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving. Boshtok not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Boshtok works a leg free and moves into half guard. Brown wants to get back to full guard. Brown is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Boshtok trying to mount his opponent but Brown defends it.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Boshtok seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brown does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Boshtok perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. More stalling from Boshtok. Brown won't allow Boshtok to pass to mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Boshtok looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that's the end of the fight! Boshtok wins on points by 5 to 2. An out of breath Yuri Boshtok thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. Joshua Brown spoke after the fight, saying 'I will learn from this!!'. |
