Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Esko Salo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Wren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Esko Salo had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Esko Salo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alan Wren!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salo with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Salo connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Esko Salo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wren looks gassed!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Salo throws a looping overhand right but Wren ducks down to avoid it.
Salo throws a hook to the side of Wren's head but Wren sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wren blocks a jab.
Wren uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Salo.
Salo throws a jab but it's blocked by Wren.
Salo is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Salo's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Salo throws a hook but Wren blocks it.
Wren dodges the punch combination from Salo.
Wren slips under a jab.
A slow jab from Salo misses its intended target.
Salo throws out a loose jab but Wren uses good head movement to avoid it.
Salo swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Wren.

Salo drops his shoulder and cracks Wren with a huge uppercut! Wren goes down! Can Salo finish him?


Wren is rocked!
Salo's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wren is still in real trouble! Can Salo finish him?

Wren working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Salo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Salo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Salo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Wren seems to have recovered his senses.

Wren is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Esko Salo just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
The fighters circling - Salo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Wren tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Salo swivels and escapes.
Salo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Wren drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Wren is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Salo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Wren creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Salo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Salo wants to improve his position but Wren is controlling well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Salo is defending against the submission attempts here by Wren.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wren throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Salo's waist but Salo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wren off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Salo lands a lovely overhand right.
Salo loads up on a big right hand but Wren slips the punch.
Alan Wren is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wren tries for a takedown but Salo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Salo is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Wren looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Salo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wren.
Wren shoots for a double leg takedown but Salo sprawls well. He's pushed Wren's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Salo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Salo slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Wren moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Salo tries to work over Wren's front leg with a kick but Wren checks it.

Wren shoots in but no luck this time.
Wren bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Wren tries to bum rush Salo with a series of wild strikes but Salo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Salo cracks Wren with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Salo has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Wren to stand back up!

and Wren counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Salo!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wren looking for a guillotine from mount but Salo is having none of it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Salo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Salo is looking to improve his position but Wren isn't that keen on the idea.

Salo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Salo tries to get out of the position.

Wren looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Wren is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Salo sees it coming and defends easily.
Salo controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Wren wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salo keeps working.
Salo tries to roll over but Wren keeps him under control.
Salo tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Wren has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Salo is wriggling around trying to escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wren looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Salo tries to hold on but Wren pushes him away.

Wren is going olschool here, as he tries to force Salo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Salo shrugs it off.

Wren with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wren is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Salo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wren.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Salo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wren moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Wren fails with the takedown.
Wren fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Salo is out of range.
Salo misses with a hook. Wren ducked under it nicely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Wren changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Salo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Wren has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Salo is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Wren yanks on the arm and Salo is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Wren.
