PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rufus Rutger (ranked 5526 p4p, 2648 weight class) and Kill Switch (ranked 563 p4p, 349 weight class). The key to victory for Rufus Rutger has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rufus Rutger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kill Switch!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Rutger.
A looping hook to the body misses from Switch. Rutger does a little dance to reset his feet.
Switch thuds his shin into the meat of Rutger's side.
Rutger uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Switch.
Switch misses with a head kick.

Switch shoots in and gets a takedown into Rutger's guard.
Switch throws a big right hand that misses.
Rutger trying to control the position.
Switch trying to control but Rutger is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rutger holds on and takes a little breather.
Rutger working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Switch.
Rutger is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rutger looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rutger preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Switch being controlled here momentarily.
Switch with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Switch wants to control from the top but Rutger keeps moving.
Switch has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rutger keeping full guard, as Switch tries to pass.
Rutger is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Switch lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Rutger wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Switch trying to control the position from guard on top but Rutger is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rutger utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Switch drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Switch jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Switch postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rutger keeping full guard, as Switch tries to pass.
Rutger looking to control.
Rutger is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Switch is trying to get back to full guard.
Switch trying to control from the bottom.
Rutger keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Switch trying to control from the bottom.
Switch keeping hold of Rutger's head, controlling as best he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Switch's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Rutger is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Switch is trying to control but can't.
Switch is looking for a sweep. Rutger is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Switch makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Switch.
Switch is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Switch looking for a guillotine here but Rutger defends easily.
Rutger is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rutger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Switch swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Switch working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rutger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rutger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Switch looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Rutger has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Switch to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Rutger is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Switch pulls down on the head and he's put Rutger to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kill Switch!
Post fight, Kill Switch stared into the camera and said 'Broken necks, splattered patellas, severed arteries: These are the things from which dreams are made of.'.
