PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Black (ranked 4474 p4p, 3922 weight class) and Doug Funny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Funny has chosen Throw some D's on it as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doug Funny!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Funny feints and as Black raises his hands in defense, Funny changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Black is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Funny's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Funny cracks Black with a solid left hand.
Funny is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Funny has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Black had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Funny defends it easily.
Funny passes Black's left leg - he's now in half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Funny looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Black with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Funny winds up and cracks Black with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Funny slips a nice elbow through Black's hands, connecting with Black's forehead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Funny is nestled in close to Black, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Funny is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Funny sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Black has hold of Funny's hands but Funny slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Funny winds up and cracks Black with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Black tries to get to full guard but Funny has control of the leg.
Funny working the head and body with strikes.
Funny seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Funny is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Funny winds up and cracks Black with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Black is trying to maintain the position but Funny is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Funny is taking a breather. Black says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Black is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Funny scores with a couple of nice shots.
Funny is figuring out what he wants to do next.
It looks like Funny might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Black is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Funny scores with a couple of nice shots.

Black wants to control but Funny is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Black is breathing heavily.
Funny drops an elbow to the side of Black's head.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Funny connects with a nice short shot to Black's temple.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Funny controlling the action here.
Funny passes the guard and advances to mount!
Funny unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Black wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Funny celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Doug Funny!
An out of breath Doug Funny thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
