PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 3039 p4p, 3850 weight class) and The Requis (ranked 361 p4p, 447 weight class). Requis has chosen Dark Souls III - Ludex Gundyr as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, The Requis ! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Requis misses with a hook. Mir ducked under it nicely. Mir could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Requis throws a hook to the side of Mir's head but Mir sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Nice defenses there by Mir. Mir moves out of range as Requis strikes. Requis throws out a loose jab but Mir uses good head movement to avoid it. Mir attempts a counter takedown but Requis avoids it well and moves away. Requis throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mir on the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mir keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Requis misses with an uppercut. Mir saw that one coming. Mir attempts a counter takedown but Requis avoids it well and moves away. Requis misses with a looping left. Mir feinted with a counter takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Requis moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Requis throws a jab but it's blocked by Mir. Mir blocks a jab. Mir changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Requis throws a shot from downtown. Mir moves away and avoids it. Mir half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Requis throws a hook but Mir blocks it. Requis misses with a hook
and Mir counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Mir's corner is telling him to maintain position. Requis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Requis is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mir trying to control the position from guard on top but Requis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mir stopping the sweep attempt from Requis . Requis is pulling down on Mir's head. It's preventing any offense from Mir, at least for the moment. Requis keeping moving, preventing Mir from controlling successfully. Mir passes easily into side control. Nice work. Mir is trying to get an arm triangle but Requis is defending well. Mir landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mir thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Requis tries to bench press Mir off him but Mir keeps the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mir wants to control but Requis is keeping him busy. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Requis can do anything to dispel that myth. Mir is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Requis knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. That's four minutes gone in the round. Mir is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Requis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Requis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mir. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mir tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mir has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mir tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mir has an Americana. Requis didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Mir is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Mir hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
