PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Coyle (ranked 2820 p4p, 2964 weight class) and Bear Claw (ranked 347 p4p, 361 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Chris Coyle has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Chris Coyle seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Coyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bear Claw!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Claw looks to clinch

and Coyle counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Claw wants to stand up but Coyle is controlling him.
Claw trying to keep a closed guard but Coyle is proving a slippery customer.
Coyle controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Coyle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Claw is proving hard to escape from.
Coyle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Claw wants to stand up but Coyle is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Claw can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Coyle controls the pace.
Coyle won't allow Claw to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Coyle rushes Claw and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Claw is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Coyle jumps guard and drags Claw to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Claw gets to his feet - Coyle follows without any prompting.
Claw tries to close the distance and clinch up but Coyle swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Coyle shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Claw sprawls well. Claw wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Coyle gets slowly back to his feet.
Claw wants to counter with a clinch but Coyle pushes him away.

Claw tries to clinch but Coyle is having none of it.

Coyle instigates a clinch.

Coyle jumps into guard, dragging Claw to the mat.

Claw gets to his feet. Coyle looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Claw pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Claw tries to clinch but Coyle is having none of it.
Coyle throws a head kick but Claw moves out of range.
Coyle sets himself, and Claw steps forward looking for the clinch! Coyle avoids it this time.
Claw is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Coyle circles away from the clinch attempt.
Coyle swats away the attempt to clinch by Claw.

Claw tries to clinch
and Coyle counters with a straight right hand.

Coyle shoots in and gets a takedown into Claw's guard.
Coyle stops Claw from standing up.

Claw manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Coyle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Claw tries to clinch but Coyle moves out of range.
We've been informed that Claw has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Coyle moves out of range of the body kick from Claw.

Coyle shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Claw napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Claw wants to get back to his feet.
Coyle tries to stand but Claw is controlling his head.
Claw wants to get back to his feet but Coyle drags him back down.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coyle landing a few strikes.
Claw is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Coyle is controlling him well.

Coyle moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Claw is trying to get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Coyle shoots in for a double leg but Claw sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
No joy there for Claw, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sloppy strikes from Claw. Those never looked like landing.
Coyle lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Claw circles away quickly and effectively.
Claw is looking to clinch but Coyle is avoiding it.

Coyle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Claw's guard.
Claw is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Claw looking for a sweep. Not yet Claw, not yet.

Claw pushes Coyle off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Claw gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Coyle stops Claw from standing up.

Claw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Coyle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Coyle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Claw is looking to sweep but instead, Coyle has passed into half guard.
Coyle drops an elbow to the side of Claw's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coyle stalling.
Claw is trying to stand up here but Coyle is controlling him well.
Coyle is controlling the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Claw is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Claw tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Coyle manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Claw has managed to clinch.
Coyle jumps guard but Claw stands there with Coyle around his waist. Coyle gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Claw landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Coyle is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Claw can do to turn this around?
Claw taking a breather.

Coyle fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Coyle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Coyle jumps guard but Claw stands there with Coyle around his waist. Coyle gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Coyle tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Claw smiles and moves away.
Claw tries to clinch up but Coyle circles away and keeps his distance.

Coyle drops down looking for a counter takedown but Claw sprawls and moves away.
Coyle takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Coyle here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Claw tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Coyle manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Coyle tries for a takedown but Claw sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A slapping leg kick lands for Claw.
Nice body kick from Claw.

Coyle keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Coyle tries to keep at a distance but Claw has taken the fight into the clinch.
Coyle trying to control the position but instead, Claw has worked for underhooks and has pushed Coyle into the cage.
Claw misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Coyle.
Claw prevents a takedown attempt there.
Claw lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Claw effectively controlling the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Coyle takes a knee right on the jaw!

It looks like Chris Coyle has been cut.
Claw misses with an elbow strike.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Claw just misses with a elbow thrown towards Coyle's brow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bear Claw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Coyle shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Coyle was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Coyle works to advance to full mount. Claw defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Coyle lands a heavy elbow.
Claw working to try and regain half guard.
Coyle lands a couple of good shots and Claw has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Coyle working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Claw is doing well to defend. Coyle seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Claw is forced to tap and this one is over!
