PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Archer (ranked 1058 p4p, 890 weight class) and Nicky Spite (ranked 157 p4p, 133 weight class). Archer comes into the arena with Wu Tang Clan - Method Man blaring out of the sound system. Nicky Spite has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jonathan Archer's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Archer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicky Spite!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Archer throws a shot to the body.
Spite dives in and grabs Archer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Archer pushes down on Spite's head and hops out.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Spite has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

and Spite counters with a left to the body.
Archer misses the shot to the body.
Spite changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Archer tries to avoid it but Spite manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Archer to the ground. Archer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Spite takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Archer lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Spite at a distance.
Good work by Spite as he checks the leg kick.

Archer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Spite manages to avoid it.

Spite stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Archer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Spite looking to sit in guard and control but Archer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Spite tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Archer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Archer decides to return to a standing position.
Archer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Spites jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Spite shoots in but Archer avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Archer misses with an uppercut.
Spite ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Archer moves away.
Jonathan Archer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Spite shoots for a takedown but Archer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Spite shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Archer manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Spite keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Spite jumps guard but Archer stands there with Spite around his waist. Spite gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Spite tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Archer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nice sprawl there from Archer as Spite shoots in.
Archer goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Archer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Spite stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Archer shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Spite takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Archer sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Spite bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!
