PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Peter Petersson (ranked 826 p4p, 1329 weight class) and Rickson Silva (ranked 117 p4p, 204 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Peter Petersson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rickson Silva!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva moves out of range of the strikes.
Petersson looks to throw the jab but Silva is out of range.
Silva is trying hard to land a takedown here. Petersson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Silva misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Silva uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Petersson.
Peter Petersson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Petersson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Petersson avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Silva changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

and Petersson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Petersson avoids it really well and circles away.

Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Petersson's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petersson lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Silva backwards.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Silva ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Silva no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Silva had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Petersson defends it easily.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Petersson.
I think Petersson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Peter Petersson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Rickson Silva was interviewed post fight and said 'una derrota no significa fracaso, significa pararte y comenzar otra ves con mas fuerzas.'.
