Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alessio Da Santiago (ranked 3425 p4p, 2480 weight class) and Robert Gomez (ranked 419 p4p, 161 weight class). Gomez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Don Omar - Bandolero. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alessio Da Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert Gomez! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gomez tries to sprawl but Da Santiago drives through with a takedown into half guard. Gomez controlling the position well. Da Santiago is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gomez is doing well to control the position and prevent Da Santiago from advancing to side control. Da Santiago seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gomez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gomez looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Da Santiago is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Da Santiago tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gomez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Gomez keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Gomez is trying to stand back up but Da Santiago is controlling him
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Gomez is in trouble now - Da Santiago has advanced to mount! Gomez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Gomez is looking to improve his position but Da Santiago isn't that keen on the idea. Da Santiago is trying to take his opponent's back.
Gomez tries to hold on but Da Santiago pushes him away. Da Santiago looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Gomez is desperately trying to improve his position but Da Santiago has a good base and remains in mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Da Santiago fails to move to back control. Gomez working to try and regain half guard.
Gomez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Da Santiago wants to control the pace but Gomez is squirming around nicely. Gomez slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Gomez looking for submissions off his back. Da Santiago is pressing down on Gomez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gomez is holding on for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gomez wants to improve his position but Da Santiago is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gomez drops back looking for a leg! Da Santiago is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Da Santiago manages to kick Gomez off! Gomez jumps back into Da Santiago's guard. Da Santiago is looking for a triangle but Gomez pushes his legs off easily.

Gomez wants to control from the top but Da Santiago keeps moving. Da Santiago had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gomez defends it easily. Gomez content to stall in guard here.

Gomez wants to control from the top but Da Santiago keeps moving. Da Santiago looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gomez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Da Santiago is tightening it up a little... Gomez has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Gomez reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Gomez taps out!
