PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between William Lati (ranked 5367 p4p, 3152 weight class) and Takeshi Takeda (ranked 525 p4p, 376 weight class). Lati comes to the cage accompanied by Ye- Burna Boy. The key to victory for William Lati has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, William Lati!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeshi Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Lati.
Lati stuns Takeda with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Lati misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Takeda.
Takeda dips to his left and cracks Lati with an uppercut!
Takeda throws a body shot but no joy.
Takeda fails with an attempt to clinch.
Takeda is looking to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No joy there for Lati, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Takeda moves out of range of the strikes.
Lati throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Takeda uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lati.

Takeda moves into range and connects with a jab.
Takeda shoots and misses
and Lati cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Lati looks to land a combination but Takeda avoids it well.
Takeda throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It looked like Lati was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Takeda.
William Lati seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lati swinging wildly here.

Lati feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Takeda sprawling to the canvas! Takeda rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Lati finish him?!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Takeda misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lati.

Takeda closes the distance and clinches.
Takeda jumps guard but Lati stands there with Takeda around his waist. Takeda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Takeda tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
William Lati has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takeshi Takeda.

Lati tries to circle away but Takeda has him pinned against the cage.
Takeda keeps control of Lati as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Takeda has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lati avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Takeda is looking for a triangle but Lati pushes his legs off easily.

Takeda is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lati defends well.

Lati wants to stand and escape but instead Takeda has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Lati can't keep his opponent in guard - Takeda advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Takeda seems to be looking for submissions.

Takeda is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lati is looking to improve his position.

Takeda is trying to work for a kimura but Lati is defending well.

Takeda maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Lati could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Takeda has cracked it and Lati is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Takeda!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Takeshi Takeda!
