Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Adam Johnson (ranked 2263 p4p, 3074 weight class) and Jeff Fafa (ranked 236 p4p, 300 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeff Fafa!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fafa throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Johnson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Fafa throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Johnson shoots in but Fafa avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Johnson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Fafa content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Johnson prevents a body shot from Fafa.
Johnson stalling in the clinch.
Johnson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Fafa misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Johnson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Fafa prevents it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fafa is pushing Johnson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Johnson wants the takedown. Fafa is fighting it off but Johnson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Fafa's guard against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Johnson is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Fafa to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fafa is keeping the position for now.
Fafa pulls Johnson in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fafa manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Fafa in his guard.

Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fafa won't allow Johnson to sweep him here.

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fafa defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fafa wants to stand but Johnson is controlling his posture from full guard.

Johnson is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Fafa has his hands clasped together but Johnson extends and breaks Fafa's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Johnson.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Adam Johnson!
