Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damian Savas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russell Ransom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savas comes to the cage accompanied by Seven Nation Army. Ransom has chosen Empire State of Mind as his entrance music. Damian Savas has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Savas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Russell Ransom!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savas doesn't manage to clinch there - Ransom circles away.
Savas shoots for a takedown but Ransom saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ransom avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Savas's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Savas duly obliges.


It looks like Russell Ransom has been cut.
Ransom takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Some wild striking there from Savas.
Savas tries to close the distance and clinch but Ransom swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savas fails in his attempt to clinch.
Savas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ransom fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Savas sprawls well initially but Ransom persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Savas is refusing to be controlled, as Ransom sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Savas keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ransom is trying to control the action in half guard but Savas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Savas is looking to escape.
Savas might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Savas is looking to improve his position.
Ransom thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ransom with a poor takedown
and Savas counters with a head kick. That will keep Ransom thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Savas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ransom swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ransom shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ransom was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ransom working for a guillotine from mount but Savas is in no mood to give up.

Ransom stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Ransom shoots for a takedown but Savas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ransom has a takedown stuffed.
Damian Savas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Russell Ransom.

Ransom shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ransom showed some decent athleticism there.
Savas wants to improve his position but Ransom is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Russell Ransom will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Russell Ransom's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Savas is looking to clinch but Ransom is avoiding it.
Savas with a lazy takedown attempt

and Ransom counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ransom must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ransom trying to control but Savas is working from the bottom.

Savas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ransom gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Savas is looking to stand up but Ransom isn't so interested in that idea.
Ransom wants to control from the top but Savas keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Savas preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Ransom sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Savas doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Ransom paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Savas - great work!
