PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Patelle (ranked 4480 p4p, 4478 weight class) and Orange Cassidy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxwell Patelle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Orange Cassidy!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Patelle fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cassidy to the ground. Patelle is now in Cassidy's guard.
Patelle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Patelle content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Cassidy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Patelle is one step ahead there.
Patelle sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cassidy's guard.
Patelle prevents Cassidy from improving his position.
Cassidy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cassidy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cassidy has his foot on Patelle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Patelle works his way back into a safe position though.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cassidy can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cassidy looking to control.
Patelle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Patelle trying to control the position from guard on top but Cassidy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cassidy wants to sweep but no luck.
Cassidy looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cassidy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Patelle doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Cassidy counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cassidy looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Cassidy prevents Patelle from improving his position.
Cassidy is stalling here. Patelle is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cassidy seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Patelle has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Cassidy is trying to get back to half guard.

Cassidy is trying to control Patelle's posture but Patelle avoids it.
Cassidy manages to work his way to half guard, despite Patelle's best efforts.
Patelle wants to pass the guard but Cassidy is defending well.
Cassidy preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Cassidy wants to control but Patelle is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Patelle wants to pass the guard but Cassidy is defending well.
Cassidy wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ground and pound from Patelle.
Cassidy wants to get back to full guard but Patelle has passed into side control.
Patelle trying to control the position but Cassidy is working away.
Cassidy is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Patelle's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Patelle is trying to control. Cassidy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Patelle dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Cassidy throws an overhand right that lands on Patelle's shoulder, as Patelle tries to avoid the shot.
Cassidy misses with an uppercut.

Cassidy shoots in and bounces Patelle off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Patelle working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cassidy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Patelle is tightening it up a little... Cassidy has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Cassidy reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Cassidy taps out! Nice BJJ there by Patelle!
