PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dick Winters (ranked 193 p4p, 175 weight class) and Maurice Tillet (ranked 36 p4p, 30 weight class). Winters comes to the cage accompanied by All Along the Watchtower. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Maurice Tillet was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dick Winters!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Maurice Tillet!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Winters closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Tillet wants to improve his position but Winters is controlling well.
Winters is looking to advance position but Tillet won't allow it.
Winters trying to control from half guard but Tillet is working away.
Winters throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tillet flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tillet tries to roll over but Winters keeps him under control.
Tillet is pressing down on Winters's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Tillet wants to control but Winters passes easily into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tillet is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Winters wants to pass to mount but Tillet is defending the position.
Well, if Winters is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Tillet is refusing to be controlled, as Winters sits in half guard.

Winters shoots in looking for a takedown. Tillet tries to sprawl out of it but Winters keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tillet manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Winters tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tillet swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Winters displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Tillet throws out the jab.

Winters takes the fight into the clinch.
Winters is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tillet pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Tillet lands with a left to the head.
Tillet wants to break the clinch but can't.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Tillet.

Winters has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Tillet clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Winters has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Tillet after a bit of a struggle.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Winters manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Tillet on his heels. He'll look to pass Tillet's guard now, I'm sure.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tillet is on top in guard.

Winters drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tillet looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tillet looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tillet!

Winters tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Tillet has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Winters takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Winters closes the distance and clinches up with Tillet, looking for a takedown. Winters pushes Tillet against the cage but Tillet circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
It seemed like Tillet was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Tillet shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Winters eats them both and turns towards Tillet to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
