PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Furnum Pullum (ranked 927 p4p, 3120 weight class) and Arlo Rochester (ranked 128 p4p, 384 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rochester's choice of entrance music: Tech N9ne- Dysfunctional. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Furnum Pullum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arlo Rochester!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pullum misses with a lunging right hand

and Rochester counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rochester.
Pullum has Rochester pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rochester manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Rochester lands a body punch.
Rochester lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Pullum backwards.
Pullum tries to work over Rochester's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Pullum really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Rochester jumps guard but Pullum turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Pullum swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Pullum tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Rochester's elbow.
Rochester is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rochester tries to pull guard but Pullum won't allow it.

Rochester jumps guard and drags Pullum to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Pullum tries to free his leg and advance position but Rochester is retaining full guard.
Pullum throws a big elbow that misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rochester is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've been hearing good reports from Pullum's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Pullum takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Pullum looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Rochester is looking to improve his position.
Pullum has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pullum is looking for a kimura but Rochester is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pullum to get the leverage.
Rochester is staying active underneath Pullum, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Pullum seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rochester does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pullum makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Pullum sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rochester's guard.

Rochester isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Pullum stacks Rochester on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Pullum!

Rochester is not content to let Pullum control the position.
Rochester wants to control but Pullum postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's time! Pullum's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Rochester keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pullum looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rochester is fending him off so far but Pullum persists. Nope, Rochester circles away and we're back to standing.
A lazy left from Pullum finds it's target.

Pullum gets tackled into the cage by Rochester. Rochester maintains the clinch.
Pullum scores with a nice hook to the head.
Rochester pushes Pullum back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Rochester ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rochester no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Rochester is trying to keep Pullum in close.

Rochester working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pullum doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pullum manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rochester is trying to keep Pullum in close.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pullum pushing down on Rochester's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pullum is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rochester is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pullum's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pullum's back!
Pullum is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rochester can do to turn this around?

Rochester is looking for a rear naked choke here but Pullum reverses the position brilliantly into Rochester's guard!
Rochester controls Pullum momentarily but Pullum frees himself.
Furnum Pullum overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pullum got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rochester has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pullum has managed to get both his arms back between Rochester's legs - danger averted.
Rochester has momentary wrist control but Pullum slips an elbow through the middle.

Pullum is really struggling to control Rochester but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Furnum Pullum will probably get the nod.

Rochester has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pullum is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rochester.

Pullum stands and throws Rochester's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Pullum moves into full mount!
Furnum Pullum is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Arlo Rochester has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Pullum has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rochester's face.
Pullum tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Pullum lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Pullum takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
BOOM! Pullum connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Rochester is trying to escape the mount.
Pullum lands with some strikes.

Pullum looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pullum takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pullum, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
