Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raelynn Neer (ranked 5858 p4p, 24006 weight class) and Fernando Madureira (ranked 583 p4p, 660 weight class). Raelynn Neer had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Raelynn Neer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fernando Madureira! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Ben Hemmingworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Neer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Madureira sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Neer somewhat. Neer misses with a leg kick. Neer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Madureira manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Neer misses with a low kick. Madureira looks like he wants to counter punch here. Neer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Neer throws an elbow but Madureira slips to the side and avoids it well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Madureira parries the strikes from Neer easily there. Neer is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Madureira to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Neer wants to control but Madureira is keeping him busy. Neer looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neer passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Madureira! Neer tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Neer thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Neer looking to ground and pound but Madureira is blocking nicely. Madureira avoids a series of strikes thrown by Neer.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Neer looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Neer has control of Madureira's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Madureira regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Neer trying to control but Madureira is having none of it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Madureira can do anything to dispel that myth. Neer throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Madureira because Neer loaded up on that one. Neer working for a submission but Madureira is keeping him at bay.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Madureira tries to reverse the position but Neer maintains control. Neer has hold of Madureira's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Madureira manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Neer throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Madureira looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Neer thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Neer struggling to keep hold of the position.

Raelynn Neer dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Nice sprawl there from Neer as Madureira shoots in. Neer fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Madureira sprawls well initially but Neer persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Madureira manages to escape and get back to his feet! Neer misses with a body kick. Neer shoots in looking for a takedown. Madureira tries to sprawl out of it but Neer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Madureira manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Madureira displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Neer. Madureira doesn't succeed with the takedown and Neer counters with a two punch combo. Madureira has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. This has been an exciting period of action! Madureira shoots for a double leg takedown but Neer sprawls well. He's pushed Madureira's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Raelynn Neer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fernando Madureira.

Neer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Madureira throws out a counter right but Neer avoids it with no problem. Madureira fails with the takedown. Madureira shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Neer as he jumps to the side. Neer tries to clinch there but Madureira circles away.

Neer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Neer lands in his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Madureira is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Neer trying to control the position from guard on top but Madureira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Neer is really struggling to control Madureira but he's trying to hold on to the position. Neer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Neer pushes down on Madureira's leg and manages to get into half guard. Neer takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Neer is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Madureira! Madureira is squirming around, avoiding Neer's attempts to control the action. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Madureira is trying desperately to improve position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Raelynn Neer will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round! A slow jab from Madureira misses its intended target. Neer tries a head kick but it misses.

Nice takedown defense from Madureira. No joy for Neer on that attempt. Neer tries to land a front kick but Madureira steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Neer lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Madureira moves out of range as Neer throws a body kick.
Fernando Madureira has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Madureira defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Neer. Neer tries for a takedown but Madureira sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The fight stays on the outside here - Neer looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Raelynn Neer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Neer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Raelynn Neer. Well Neer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
