Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Meier (ranked 4827 p4p, 3183 weight class) and Frank Volko (ranked 531 p4p, 406 weight class). Eric Meier could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Frank Volko's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eric Meier! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank Volko! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Volko enables Meier to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Volko manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Volko looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Meier is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Meier throwing strikes from guard but Volko blocks nicely. Meier throwing strikes but missing. Meier is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Meier content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Volko is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Meier stays in close to Volko's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meier has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup. Meier has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Meier drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Volko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Meier has Volko in his guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Meier is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Our spies down at at IMMA Gym of Elite ASS inform us that Volko has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. This is a sustained period of stalling by Meier. Meier working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Meier missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Meier shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Meier was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Meier wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Volko, who protects the arm well. Meier controls the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Meier decides to stand up, so the ref orders Volko to his feet. Meier shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Volko manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Meier's corner is telling him to maintain position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Meier pushes down on Volko's leg and manages to get into half guard. Meier is taking a breather. Volko says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Meier looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Volko wants to improve his position but Meier is controlling well.

The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Meier with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Meier throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Volko was covering up waiting for the punch and Meier finishes the takedown easily into guard. Meier is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Eric Meier overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! Meier feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Meier is pushing down on Volko's leg trying to pass to half guard. Volko is fighting to maintain full guard but Meier has managed to sneak the leg through. Meier is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Meier seems to be looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Meier is figuring out what he wants to do next. Meier thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Volko's head. Volko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meier. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Volko takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Meier keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Meier is working for a submission of some sort.
Meier is nestled in close to Volko, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Meier slows the pace down in half guard. Meier continues to hold on tight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Meier changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Volko tries to avoid it but Meier manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Volko to the ground. Volko escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Meier shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Volko napping and manages to drive through into side control! Volko tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Meier looking to break Volko's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Volko remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Meier will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Meier slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Frank Volko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Eric Meier is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
And that's the end of the fight! Eric Meier showed his dominance in that final round. Well Meier has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
