PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Leko (ranked 2640 p4p, 5501 weight class) and Ciaran Sheahan (ranked 351 p4p, 536 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alexander Leko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ciaran Sheahan!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, David Schapiro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sheahan lands with a cross.
Leko seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Sheahan throws a body punch but Leko moves out of range.
Sheahan connects with a body shot.
Leko dives in and grabs Sheahan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sheahan pushes down on Leko's head and hops out.
Sheahan scores with a jab to the jaw.
Horrible takedown attempt by Leko or perhaps it was just good defense by Sheahan, which made it look bad.
Sheahan connects with a body shot.
Leko on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Leko connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Sheahan misses with a wild combination.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Leko fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sheahan to the ground. Leko is now in Sheahan's guard.
Sheahan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Leko is controlling him.

Leko postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sheahan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Leko, into his guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Leko counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sheahan won't be happy with that.
Sheahan felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Leko wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sheahan keeps working.

Leko is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sheahan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sheahan is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Leko is controlling him well.

Sheahan takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Leko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Leko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sheahan, who protects the arm well.

Leko misses with the ground and pound.
Leko wants to control for a moment but Sheahan uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Sheahan is staying active underneath Leko, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sheahan tries to kick Leko off but Leko keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Leko looks to land a strike but Sheahan avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

That's time! Leko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Leko closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sheahan's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sheahan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Leko was well out of range. Poor timing from Sheahan.
Sheahan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Leko manages to avoid it.

Sheahan connects with a body shot that sends Leko's belly button to the back.
Leko slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Leko misses with a hook.
Leko takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sheahan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Leko changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Sheahan scores with a nice strike.
Sheahan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Leko at a distance.
Sheahan lands a glancing blow to the side of Leko's head.
Leko closes the distance and clinches up with Sheahan, looking for a takedown. Leko pushes Sheahan against the cage but Sheahan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Leko closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The referee asks Leko politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Leko prefers to stall for the moment though.

Sheahan is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Leko misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Leko tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sheahan's legs.
Leko sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sheahan is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alexander Leko.
I think Leko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
