Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Conor Butcher (ranked 906 p4p, 770 weight class) and Shaquan Woods (ranked 135 p4p, 114 weight class). Butcher's entrance music is Eaten by Bloodbath. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 4 - 2, fighting out of New York, Conor Butcher! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shaquan Woods! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Butcher misses with a takedown attempt - Woods sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Butcher fails with a takedown attempt. Woods throws out a counter right but Butcher avoids it with no problem. Butcher clinches up with Woods and pushes him back against the cage. Woods fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
A left hand lands to the body for Woods.
Woods makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Good body shot from Butcher.
Butcher misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Butcher blocks a punch to the side of the head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Butcher blocks a jab. Butcher drops down looking for a counter takedown but Woods sprawls and moves away. Woods takes one to the side of the head.
Woods misses with a hook. Butcher ducked under it nicely. Butcher scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Woods takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Butcher tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Woods defends well and Butcher ends up having to push Woods into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conor Butcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Woods lands with a short head shot on the inside. Woods tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Butcher's elbow. Woods working aggressively here.
Woods scores with a shoulder strike. A head punch blocked on the inside by Woods. Woods pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A telegraphed right hand from Butcher misses the target. Butcher lands with a nice body punch. Butcher drives through with a takedown into guard. Woods looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Woods looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Woods has his foot on Butcher's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Butcher works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Woods had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Butcher defends it easily. Woods being controlled here, momentarily. Woods wants to control the position but Butcher says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. We've been hearing good reports from Butcher's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Woods controlling the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Butcher sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Woods defending well though. Butcher is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Butcher postures up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Woods working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Butcher.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Shaquan Woods is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Butcher walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Butcher cracks Woods with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Woods throws an overhand right that lands on Butcher's shoulder, as Butcher tries to avoid the shot. A nice leg kick from Woods, right into the meat of the thigh.

Woods takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

It looks like Conor Butcher has been cut. A big right from Woods misses. Butcher lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Woods at a distance.
Woods walks into a stiff left hand from Butcher. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Shaquan Woods will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Conor Butcher's cut. That's time! Back to the action! Woods thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Butcher if he has to take too many more of those.
Woods steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Butcher. Butcher jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Woods on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Butcher swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Butcher fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conor Butcher. That's going to take a lot out of him. A punch lands to the side of Butcher 's head but he takes it in his stride. Butcher lands an overhand right. Butcher slips a jab from Woods.
That's one minute gone in the round. Butcher scores with a jab. Woods acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Woods misses with an uppercut. Butcher saw that one coming. Butcher missing with a left hand there. Woods was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Butcher lunges at Woods with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Woods's hand. Butcher drives through with a takedown into Woods's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Woods seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Woods looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Butcher passes into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Butcher has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Woods! Butcher controlling from the full mount. Butcher has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Butcher can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Woods is looking to escape. Woods is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Woods is still trying to improve position. Woods is squirming around, avoiding Butcher's attempts to control the action. Woods is trying desperately to improve position. Woods is squirming around, avoiding Butcher's attempts to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Butcher tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Woods tries to get back to half guard but can't. Woods slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Woods moves into full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Conor Butcher will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Conor Butcher's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round! Jab by Butcher. Woods throws a series of punches but Butcher avoids them all with ease. Butcher is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Butcher drives through with a takedown into guard. Woods wants to control the position but Butcher says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Woods felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Woods is pressing down on Butcher's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Woods working for submissions but it's allowed Butcher to get to half guard.
Butcher is keen to just control but Woods is a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Butcher stalling. Butcher wants to pass to mount but Woods is defending the position. Butcher wants to take a breather but Woods is having none of it. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Woods moves away from the strike by Butcher. Butcher fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Butcher staying out of range there. Butcher misses with a right hand and Woods counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Conor Butcher seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Butcher scores with a jab. Butcher defending well as Woods loads up on a big left hand. Butcher takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Woods misses with a wild body shot. Woods gets caught napping as Butcher dives in and scores a takedown. Woods manages to retain guard. Butcher trying to control but Woods is working from the bottom. Woods trying to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Woods wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Butcher is now in half guard. Woods regains full guard. Nicely done. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Woods working a defensive guard here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Butcher controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that's the end of the fight! Conor Butcher showed his dominance in that final round. I think Butcher has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
