Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon James (ranked 4450 p4p, 24277 weight class) and Dustin Gaethje (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dustin Gaethje has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dustin Gaethje!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaethje shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with James but James pushes him off and we're back to square one.
James misses with a kick to the body

so Gaethje counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
James has momentary wrist control but Gaethje slips an elbow through the middle.
James is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gaethje is looking to advance position but James has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Gaethje is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Gaethje wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

James has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Gaethje has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gaethje throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. James tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gaethje is in James's guard.

James takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

James decides to stand and escape the position.

James scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gaethje is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gaethje has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Gaethje's legs - danger averted.

James wants to control from the top but Gaethje keeps moving.

Gaethje is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. James is aware though and is defending well.
James is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gaethje can do to turn this around?

Gaethje is working an open guard so James takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

James rushes Gaethje and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

James is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

James has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gaethje uses from the top position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brandon James will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Gaethje closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. James did well to prevent Gaethje getting side control.
James is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gaethje's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gaethje's back!
James has the hooks in. Gaethje is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Gaethje is having to fend off submission attempts from James, who is looking to sink in the choke. James doesn't have the hooks in though and Gaethje manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gaethje can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gaethje stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

James will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
James is trying to control the position but Gaethje postures up.
Gaethje is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Gaethje escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. James gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

James seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gaethje can do anything to dispel that myth.

James decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Gaethje works over James's head and body with a nice combination.
James shoots in looking for a takedown. Gaethje tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gaethje manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Brandon James is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gaethje throws a right and a left that James avoids nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dustin Gaethje comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think James has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
