Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rebel Smith (ranked 1121 p4p, 2833 weight class) and Jose Carvaleho (ranked 153 p4p, 352 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rebel Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Carvaleho! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith misses with a looping right. And Carvaleho tries to counter it with a takedown but Smith pushes his down on his head and steps out. Smith takes a body punch but keeps moving. Carvaleho takes a body punch but keeps moving. Carvaleho has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. We've been informed that Carvaleho has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. A looping hook to the body misses from Carvaleho. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet. Nice body punch from Carvaleho. Smith swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Carvaleho swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Carvaleho connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Smith's hands. Carvaleho misses with a hook. Smith ducked under it nicely. An attempted straight right counter from Smith misses the target. No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's one minute gone in the round. Smith stuns Carvaleho with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Carvaleho tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Carvaleho is just out of range. Carvaleho tries to land a front kick but Smith steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Carvaleho ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Smith misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Carvaleho.
Carvaleho scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Carvaleho takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Carvaleho lands with a kick to the temple. Smith shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Smith takes a swing at Carvaleho's ribcage but misses. Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Carvaleho is just out of range. Smith scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carvaleho misses with a wild body shot. Smith is looking to wear down Carvaleho with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Carvaleho avoids the body shot from Smith.

Smith swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Smith connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Carvaleho scores with a nice head shot. Smith lands a slapping body shot.
Carvaleho throws a body shot but no joy. Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Carvaleho. A jab from Smith misses. Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've been told by Smith's head coaches at Brooklyn Mixed Martial Arts that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Crunch! Carvaleho slams his shin into Smith's torso. Carvaleho digs a good body shot into Smith's ribs. Carvaleho slips a straight right by Smith. Smith throws a body punch but Carvaleho moves out of range. Smith fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Smith blocks the body kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith ducks under a wild hook from Carvaleho. Smith misses with a straight left. Smith misses the shot to the body. The fighters circle momentarily. Smith darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Carvaleho throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Smith stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Carvaleho throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Smith has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Smith there as he acknowledges the shot. Smith gets caught flat footed, as Carvaleho shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Carvaleho wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position. Smith controlling Carvaleho's posture. Smith utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Smith keeping moving, preventing Carvaleho from controlling successfully. Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carvaleho trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom. Carvaleho thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Smith is pulling down on Carvaleho's head. It's preventing any offense from Carvaleho, at least for the moment. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Carvaleho lands a couple of elbows. Smith is trying to keep Carvaleho in close.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Carvaleho throws a big right hand that misses. Smith keeping moving, preventing Carvaleho from controlling successfully. That was a close round but I would say that Rebel Smith will probably get the nod. That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carvaleho fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it. Carvaleho takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Carvaleho uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.

Smith gets through Carvaleho's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Carvaleho is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Smith to keep the fight standing. Smith's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Carvaleho has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Rebel Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Carvaleho. Carvaleho decides to pull guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smith wants to control from the top but Carvaleho keeps moving. Smith knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carvaleho on the ground. Smith wants to get up but he can't break Carvaleho's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carvaleho escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carvaleho has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Carvaleho's legs - danger averted. Carvaleho has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Smith wants to stand but Carvaleho has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Carvaleho is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.

Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Smith throws a jab when Carvaleho was well out of range. A looping hook to the body misses from Smith. Carvaleho does a little dance to reset his feet. Carvaleho changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Carvaleho moves out of range of the strikes. Nice uppercut lands for Carvaleho. That snapped Smith's head back.

Jose Carvaleho showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round! Smith throws a body punch but Carvaleho moves out of range. A combination from Carvaleho does no damage. Smith throws a sloppy body shot
and Carvaleho counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that. Smith struggling a bit here. Smith is trying to buck Carvaleho off. Carvaleho trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom. The strikes coming from Carvaleho are missing the target in this wave of attacks. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carvaleho is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Smith sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Carvaleho looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carvaleho is trying to work for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
Smith wants to control but Carvaleho is keeping busy and won't allow it. Carvaleho prevents Smith from standing back up.

Carvaleho moves into full mount! Smith won't be happy about that! Carvaleho postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Smith looks a forlorn figure.
Smith tries to reverse the position but Carvaleho maintains control. Smith is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Carvaleho locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Smith is forced to tap!
