PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jose Leal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Leal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Harris!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A nice combination there by Leal.
Paul Harris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Harris shoots in for a takedown but Leal shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Leal lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Harris backs up against the cage.
Harris shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Leal sprawls well. Leal wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Harris gets slowly back to his feet.
Harris shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Leal pinned against the cage. Leal gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jose Leal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Harris.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Leal tries to bum rush Harris with a series of wild strikes but Harris uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Leal slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Harris has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Leal slaps away a takedown attempt from Harris, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Leal scores with a hook.
Harris looks gassed!

Harris shoots in and bounces Leal off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harris wants to control from the top but Leal keeps moving.
Leal wants to stand but Harris is controlling the position.
Harris is stalling in the full guard.
Harris in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Harris tries to free his leg and advance position but Leal is retaining full guard.
Harris wants to control from the top but Leal keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Harris feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Harris with a flurry of punches that miss.
Harris chips away with some ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leal keeping full guard, as Harris tries to pass.
Harris throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Leal works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Harris trying to control the position from guard on top but Leal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Harris postures up in Leal's guard and throws a big left but Leal blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harris thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Harris trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Leal scores with a punch to the head.
Harris needs to keep his hands up - Leal had a free shot at his head there.
Harris is looking to clinch but Leal is avoiding it.
Nice takedown defense from Leal. No joy for Harris on that attempt.
A left and a right from Leal both land. Nice combination.
Leal lands a nice shot to the body.

Leal moves into the clinch.

Harris lands a takedown into guard.
Leal wants to stand but Harris is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harris trying to control but Leal is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Leal dominated that round.
That's time! Leal's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Leal takes the fight into the clinch.

Leal breaks from the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Harris.
Leal throws a series of strikes that have Harris backpedaling.
A nice combination there by Leal.
Leal misses with a few strikes there.
Leal is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Leal tries to bum rush Harris with a series of wild strikes but Harris uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Leal listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
No luck for Harris with that takedown attempt.
Leal throws a right and a left that both miss.
Harris tries to clinch
and Leal counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Harris takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Harris bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Leal is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Harris has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Harris lands an elbow.
Harris trying to control the position but Leal is working away.
Leal on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Leal tries to get out of the position.
Harris in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Harris cracks Leal with a big elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Harris cracks Leal with a big right hand but Leal just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Harris is working to tighten is grip on Leal's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Leal has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Harris is really squeezing tight and eventually Leal passes out! Harris breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Paul Harris!
