Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Jones!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Penn on that attempt.
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones loads up on a big right hand but Penn slips the punch.
Penn tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Penn is looking to clinch.
Jones clobbers Penn with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jones stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Penn avoids the head kick by Jones.
Jones throws a series of punches but Penn avoids them all with ease.
Jones stuns Penn with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Penn fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.
Penn fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Penn is controlling the position.

Penn pulls guard successfully.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Penn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Penn is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Penn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Penn looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
Jones sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Penn has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn is breathing heavily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jones wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.

Penn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jones wants to stand but Penn has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Penn not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Penn being controlled here, momentarily.
Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones wants to stand but Penn has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Penn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones wants to stand but Penn is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Penn manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Left hook, right uppercut from Jones.
Jones thuds a left hand into Penn's body.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Penn.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Jones will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jones stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Penn.
Jones dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Penn throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Jones clobbers Penn with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Jones scores with a hook to the body. Penn takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
A telegraphed right hand from Jones misses the target.
Jones cracks Penn with an open hand slap.
Jones scores with a crisp jab that stopped Penn in his tracks.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Penn has taken the fight into the clinch.
Penn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jones gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Penn tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Penn keeps him there for the moment.
Penn drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jones pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jones comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Jones looks to land a combination. Penn sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Jones works the jab nicely.
Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mark Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Penn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jones is fending him off so far but Penn persists. Nope, Jones circles away and we're back to standing.
John Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Jones lands a head kick!
Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Penn takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Jones connects with the punch.
Jones lands a body shot.
Penn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Penn drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Jones scores with a one two! Penn had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

Penn scores a takedown into full mount!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Penn throws some wild stikes that Jones manages to avoid easily.
Penn sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Jones is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Penn unloads with some shots from mount but Jones bucks and avoids them well.
Jones is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Penn has control of Jones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jones regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Penn avoids the attempt from Jones to control.

Penn moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jones has worked his arm free - good work by Jones!
Penn fails to land a wild elbow strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Penn is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Jones tries to buck Penn off but Penn is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones throws a one two combo.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Penn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Penn tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Penn slips under a jab from Jones.
Penn shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Penn takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Jones connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Jones throws a shot from downtown. Penn moves away and avoids it.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Penn's hands.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Penn avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
Jones avoids a punch combination nicely.

Penn fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Penn tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.

Jones gets caught flat footed, as Penn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Penn is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!

Jones stands up from Penn's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.

Jones misses the jab.
Jones is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Penn tries a head kick but it misses.
Penn blocks a head kick by Jones.
Jones misses with a looping right.
Penn shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jones darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Jones connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Penn's hands.
Jones jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick

and Penn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jones's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Penn content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Penn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jones lands an overhand right.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Penn moves out of range easily.

Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Penn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Penn is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mark Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Penn shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Penn's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Penn walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Jones tests Penn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Jones lands a jab.
John Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones scores with a jab to the jaw.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
