Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vito Scaletta (ranked 16464 p4p, 2686 weight class) and Kyle Austin (ranked 630 p4p, 373 weight class). Kyle Austin acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 25 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, Vito Scaletta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 24 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle Austin! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Austin scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Scaletta moves out of range of the leg kick from Austin. The fight stays on the outside here - Austin looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Austin has Scaletta up against the cage in a clinch.
Austin misses with a hook to the ribs.
Austin tries to land a knee to the head but Scaletta blocks with his arms.
Scaletta tries to pull guard but Austin holds him up against the cage and eventually Scaletta drops back down to his feet.
Austin is working Scaletta over against the cage. Scaletta has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Scaletta breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Austin's coach down at Cali Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Austin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Austin cracks Scaletta with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Scaletta tests Austin's chin there with a solid looking shot. Scaletta looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Austin scores with a hook to the body. Scaletta takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
That's one minute gone in the round. Scaletta shoots in for a double leg but Austin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vito Scaletta. That's going to take a lot out of him. Austin misses with a double jab.

Kyle Austin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Austin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Austin with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Scaletta takes a knee to the side of the body. Scaletta pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Austin fails in his attempt to clinch. Scaletta feinted with a counter takedown. Scaletta manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Austin on his heels. He'll look to pass Austin's guard now, I'm sure. Scaletta controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Austin pulls Scaletta in to control the position. This has been an exciting period of action! Scaletta looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Scaletta won't allow Austin to sweep him here. Scaletta forces his way into half guard. Scaletta takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Austin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Scaletta. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Scaletta seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Austin for as long as he can get away with. Scaletta has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Austin misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Austin tries to close the distance and clinch but Scaletta swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Austin avoids the body shot from Scaletta.
Austin throws out a leg kick but Scaletta moves out of range and Austin only half commits. Scaletta uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Austin.
Scaletta is looking to counter the offense by Austin and move into the clinch. Scaletta looks to throw the jab but Austin is out of range. Scaletta throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
It looks like Kyle Austin has been cut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Scaletta wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Austin lands a nice looking body shot.
Some bone on bone action there as Scaletta checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Austin clinches. Scaletta is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Austin can't fight it off and eventually Scaletta manages to take the fight to the floor. Austin looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Austin is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Scaletta dives into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Austin can do anything to dispel that myth. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Austin is looking to regain half guard here but Scaletta keeps moving and retains side control. Austin taking punishment in the form of punches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Scaletta shoots in and gets a takedown into Austin's guard. Austin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Scaletta is controlling him. Scaletta trying to control but Austin is working from the bottom. Austin managing to control the position. Scaletta looking to sit in guard and control but Austin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Scaletta shoots in and gets a takedown into Austin's guard. Scaletta is in close to Austin's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Scaletta's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Scaletta trying to control the position from guard on top but Austin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Scaletta controls from within his opponent's guard. Scaletta throws a big elbow that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Austin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Scaletta's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Scaletta's back! Scaletta trying to control but not successfully. I would not like to be Scaletta right now.

Scaletta wants to control his opponent's hands but Austin gets his hands free. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Austin controlling well, preventing Scaletta from escaping the position.
Scaletta is working hard here to advance position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Austin wants to clinch but Scaletta slips to the side and Scaletta counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Austin lands with a good body shot. Kyle Austin seems to be getting the better of the standup. Scaletta looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Austin is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Scaletta looks for a takedown but Austin sprawls well. Austin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Scaletta, pushing him back against the cage. Scaletta drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Scaletta dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Austin is trying to maintain the position but Scaletta is very close to passing his half guard. Scaletta seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Scaletta is putting a hurting on Austin here, landing some big shots from side control. Austin is letting Scaletta control him for a moment. Scaletta working the body and head with strikes. Austin wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Scaletta seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Austin is tapping! Wow, great finish!
