Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Keenan Downing (ranked 4345 p4p, 4413 weight class) and Paul Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Keenan Downing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Smith!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Downing bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Downing tries to clinch up.
Downing tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance.
Downing misses with a two punch combination.
Smith feints the counter takedown.
Downing tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smith appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Downing shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Smith counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Downing tries to circle away but Smith has him pinned against the cage.
Downing is trying to force a seperation but Smith has the dominant position.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Smith takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Smith is pressed up against the cage. Downing has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keenan Downing. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Downing looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.
Downing leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Downing looks to land a left hand but Smith moved out of range nicely.
Downing fails with an attempt to clinch.
Downing missing with a left hand there. Smith was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Downing moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.

Smith darts in and clinches Downing up against the cage.
Downing has a couple of punches blocked by Smith.
Downing is trying to stall.
Smith has Downing pressed against the cage, preventing Downing from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Downing sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Downing drops down looking for a counter takedown but Smith sprawls and moves away.
Downing throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Downing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Downing goes for a takedown in the clinch but Smith prevents it.
Downing misses with a short punch on the inside.
Smith cracks Downing with a nice body shot.
Smith is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Downing pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Smith has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Downing uses from the top position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
Downing won't allow Smith to sweep him here.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Downing wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Downing is fighting to break Smith's control of his arms but Smith is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Downing trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Downing stopping the sweep attempt from Smith.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Downing avoids the head kick by Smith.
Downing changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Downing tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.
Smith is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Downing looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Downing doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Downing gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Smith holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A short uppercut from Smith.
Smith prevents Downing from breaking the clinch.

Smith breaks from the clinch.
Downing shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Smith clinches.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Smith pulls Downing into guard.

Downing is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Smith dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Smith circles away from the clinch attempt
and Smith counters with a nice uppercut.
Downing tries to move into range but Smith moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Smith throws a chopping leg kick but Downing manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
The fight stays on the outside here - Downing looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Downing avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Downing tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.
Smith throws a one two combo.
Paul Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Downing forces Smith back against the cage and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith blocks a body shot from Downing.

Smith gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Downing makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Downing.

Downing is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Smith has his hands clasped together but Downing extends and breaks Smith's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Downing.
