PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tom Korppila (ranked 3647 p4p, 5602 weight class) and Abdo Farah (ranked 474 p4p, 591 weight class). Abdo Farah has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Korppila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Abdo Farah!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Korppila defending well as Farah loads up on a big left hand.
Farah takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Farah leaves Korppila with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Korppila slips a jab from Farah.
Farah misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Korppila.
Farah walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Korppila seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Korppila fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Farah throws out a loose jab but Korppila uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Korppila counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Korppila drops back looking for a leg! Farah is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Farah manages to kick Korppila off! Korppila jumps back into Farah's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Korppila has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Korppila accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Korppila waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Farah.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Farah! But no joy.
Korppila tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Farah swivels and escapes.
A little jabbing left from Farah on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Farah blocks a jab.
Korppila is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Farah.

Korppila feints a jab promting Farah to slip. Korppila then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Farah slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Korppila changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Farah tries to avoid it but Korppila manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Farah to the ground. Farah escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Korppila misses with a takedown attempt - Farah sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tom Korppila. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Farah bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Korppila! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

Farah must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Abdo Farah showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Korppila shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Korppila was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Farah really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Korppila. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Korppila is looking to take a break and control but Farah is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Farah looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Farah parries the strikes from Korppila easily there. Korppila is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Farah to escape.
