PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wallace Everett (ranked 1477 p4p, 3798 weight class) and Snail Tail (ranked 206 p4p, 453 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wallace Everett! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Snail Tail! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tail defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Everett. Tail is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Everett is looking to clinch. Tail changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Tail stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tail wants it to stay on the feet. And Tail tries to counter it with a takedown but Everett pushes his down on his head and steps out. Everett shoots in for a takedown but Tail shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wallace Everett. That's going to take a lot out of him. Everett fails in his attempt to clinch. Tail changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Everett tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tail sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Everett somewhat.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Everett throws a body kick that misses and Tail counters with a nice double leg into side control. Everett won't be happy with that. Tail is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Everett looks calm but he's in trouble here. Tail gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Everett is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Tail lets go of the hold and Everett can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Snail Tail! Snail Tail is the new lightweight champion!
