PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Omega (ranked 4403 p4p, 4800 weight class) and Johnah Drix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Omega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnah Drix!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omega looks to throw a body kick
enabling Drix to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like Kenny Omega has been cut.

Omega drives through and clinches with Drix against the cage.

Omega pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Omega drives through with a takedown into guard.
Drix throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Omega wants to control from the top but Drix keeps moving.
Omega looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Drix looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Omega engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Omega wants to stand but Drix is controlling his posture from full guard.
Drix utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Drix clinches with his opponent.
Omega is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Drix to keep the fight standing.
Omega effectively controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Drix tries to land knees in the clinch but Omega avoids the damage to the body.
Omega is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Drix to keep the fight standing.

Omega has picked Drix up - he's going for a ride! Omega dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Drix trying to hold on to Omega's head to control him but Omega postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drix is trying to stand.
Omega trying to control from Drix's half guard. Drix has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Drix wants to improve his position but instead Omega has moved into half guard.
Omega keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Drix on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Omega thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Omega trying to control from half guard but Drix is working away.
Drix wants to improve his position but Omega is controlling well.
Drix makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Drix.
Omega controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Drix is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Omega gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Drix with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Omega tries to pull guard but Drix holds him up against the cage and eventually Omega drops back down to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Drix misses with a takedown attempt - Omega sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Drix tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Omega avoids it.
Omega slowing the pace effectively.
Omega is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Drix can do to turn this around?
Omega is trying to drag Drix to the mat but Drix just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Omega jumps guard but Drix turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Drix stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Omega escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Drix attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Drix tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Omega swivels and escapes.

Omega fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Drix, pushing him back against the cage.
Drix jumps guard but Omega stands there with Drix around his waist. Drix gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kenny Omega has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnah Drix.

Omega has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Drix is trying to keep an underhook but Omega manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Drix makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Omega rushes Drix and presses him up against the cage.
Omega can't get the takedown.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Omega tries to score a body lock takedown but Drix shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Omega jumps guard but Drix turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Drix escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Omega counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Omega.

Drix is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Omega presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Omega breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Omega fails with a takedown attempt.
Drix getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Omega tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Drix connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Omega shoots in looking for a takedown. Drix tries to sprawl out of it but Omega keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drix manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
No luck for Drix with that takedown attempt.

Drix clinches with his opponent.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Drix.
Drix scores with a hook to the body.
Omega tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Drix just stands there and leans against the cage.
Omega is looking to control Drix's arms but Drix gets an underhook and turns him. Now Omega has his back to the cage.

Drix manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Drix is controlling Omega's posture.
Drix looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Johnah Drix has got the better of the ground game so far.

Omega looking to sit in guard and control but Drix gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Omega on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Omega tries to get out of the position.
Drix sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Omega pulls Drix in to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Johnah Drix showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Drix throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Omega darts in and clinches Drix up against the cage.
Drix tries to pull guard but Omega holds him up against the cage and eventually Drix drops back down to his feet.

Drix wants to get back to striking at distance but Omega won't allow it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Drix is in trouble now - Omega has advanced to mount!
Drix wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
I would not like to be Drix right now.
Drix is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Omega patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Omega is punishing Drix with strikes - can he finish him?!

Omega is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

I would not like to be Drix right now.
Omega looking to soften up his opponent with punches.

Omega is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Drix knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Drix for a finish.
Drix is really stuck here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Omega has got his arm under Drix's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Drix has spun round into Omega's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Omega is trying to keep Drix in close.
Drix preventing the sweep.
Drix has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Omega is proving hard to escape from.
Drix wants to control from the top but Omega keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
