Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Guy Bernier (ranked 4622 p4p, 5388 weight class) and Ricardo Gracie (ranked 394 p4p, 425 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Guy Bernier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ricardo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernier bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Bernier fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Bernier connects with a looping right hand.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Bernier manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bernier was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Bernier lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Gracie has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Gracie and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Bernier could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A head kick from Bernier lands but Gracie takes it in his stride.
Bernier tries a head kick but it misses.

Gracie doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Bernier moves into the clinch.
Gracie breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Bernier tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Gracie manages to circle out of the way.
Bernier gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bernier lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Gracie wants to break free but Bernier has control.
Gracie's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bernier rushes Gracie and presses him up against the cage.
Bernier tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gracie avoids it.

Gracie tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bernier tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

I was talking to Bernier's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Gracie breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bernier drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gracie wants to get back to his feet but Bernier passes into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gracie felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Bernier tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gracie knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie wants to get back to full guard but Bernier has mounted him!

Gracie wants to hold on but Bernier pushes him away.
Bernier stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bernier to the mat! Bernier manages to get full guard.

Bernier tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bernier swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Bernier keeps moving.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Bernier defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
Gracie takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Bernier stuffs the takedown attempt from Gracie. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bernier lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Bernier cracks Gracie with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Bernier tries to land a front kick but Gracie steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Gracie changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bernier shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gracie's guard.

Bernier lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Gracie backwards.
Gracie jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bernier walks away with a smile on his face. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nice uppercut lands for Bernier. That snapped Gracie's head back.
Bernier shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Bernier fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gracie to the ground. Bernier is now in Gracie's guard.
Gracie is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bernier is controlling him.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bernier as he avoids it easily.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Bernier sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

As Bernier backs off Gracie throws a huge counter combo but Bernier manages to avoid it all.

Gracie pushes off an throws an elbow but Bernier leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Gracie looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Well Bernier has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
