PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Junichi Sasai (ranked 1935 p4p, 1767 weight class) and Juanito Escobar (ranked 283 p4p, 263 weight class). Sasai comes into the arena with I Love Trash blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Junichi Sasai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Juanito Escobar!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sasai cracks Escobar with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Escobar lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Escobar turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Escobar manages to end up in side control.

Sasai wants to hold on but Escobar pushes him away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sasai working to try and regain half guard.

Escobar sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Escobar has hold of Sasai's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sasai manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Sasai ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Escobar moves away.
Escobar replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Sasai blocks it well.
Sasai seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Sasai throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sasai rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Escobar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Escobar takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Sasai drives through and clinches with Escobar against the cage.
Escobar has Sasai pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sasai manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sasai is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Escobar to keep the fight standing.
Sasai is trying to break the clinch but Escobar is controlling him.
Escobar misses with some punches.

Sasai pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sasai looks to land a right hand but Escobar moved out of range.

Sasai connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Escobar momentarily.
Sasai throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
And Escobar tries to counter it with a takedown but Sasai pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Escobar keeps the fight on the outside.
Escobar is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Sasai with a body shot.
Escobar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sasai backing away here, and Escobar unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Junichi Sasai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Escobar counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Escobar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Escobar is trying to control the action in half guard but Sasai is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Escobar wants to pass to mount but Sasai is defending the position.
Escobar is looking to take a break and control but Sasai is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Escobar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sasai haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Escobar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Escobar wants to work for an arm triangle but Sasai is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Escobar uses his free foot to push down on Sasai's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sasai.
Escobar tries to control but Sasai wriggling away.

Escobar goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sasai turns into him and now he's in Escobar's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Escobar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sasai can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Junichi Sasai.
I think Escobar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
