This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Springsteen Lee! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Jacky Costigan ! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Lee moves into the clinch. Costigan jumps guard but Lee turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Costigan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lee has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Costigan uses from the top position. Costigan postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Costigan being controlled here momentarily. Lee has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lee working for a triangle but Costigan defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Costigan trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Costigan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Lee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Costigan 's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Lee (2) vs (0) Costigan Costigan is looking for a triangle here but Lee uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Score +3 for passing guard: Lee (5) vs (0) Costigan Lee controls the position. Lee wants to control but Costigan is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Costigan tries to improve position but can't. Lee looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Lee is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Costigan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Costigan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lee wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lee tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Lee thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Costigan is looking for a sweep. Lee goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Costigan has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Lee but great work by Costigan . Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Lee (5) vs (4) Costigan
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lee manages to work his way to half guard, despite Costigan 's best efforts. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Costigan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lee does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Costigan tries to pass to full mount but Lee defends it. Costigan is thwarting Lee's attempts to control the position. Costigan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lee keeps working. Lee wants to get back to full guard.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Costigan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lee knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Lee gets back to full guard.
Lee pulls Costigan in close to his closed guard and prevents Costigan from doing any damage or advancing position. Costigan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Costigan works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Lee regains full guard. Nicely done. Lee working a defensive guard but Costigan passes into half guard.
Lee won't allow Costigan to pass to mount. Lee trying to control but Costigan postures up.
Lee is looking for a sweep. Costigan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Costigan is working for a submission of some sort.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Lee looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Costigan moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Lee. Score +3 for passing guard: Lee (5) vs (7) Costigan Costigan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lee has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Costigan but great work by Lee. Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Lee (9) vs (7) Costigan Lee tries for a kimura but Costigan is defending well. Lee tries for a kimura. That's eight minutes gone in the round. Costigan is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lee's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Lee! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Costigan has tapped! This one is allllll over!
