PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between New Home (ranked 248 p4p, 118 weight class) and Maurice Tillet (ranked 39 p4p, 18 weight class). Home comes to the cage accompanied by Ransom. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Maurice Tillet was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, New Home!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Maurice Tillet!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Home missing with a left hand there. Tillet was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Home lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Tillet throws a jab when Home was well out of range.
Tillet defending well as Home loads up on a big left hand.
Tillet looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Home blocks a jab.
Tillet loads up on a big right hand but Home slips the punch.
Tillet moves out of range of the strikes.
Home throws an overhand right that lands on Tillet's shoulder, as Tillet tries to avoid the shot.
Tillet avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Home throws a hook but Tillet avoids it easily.
Home tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Home throws a jab but it's blocked by Tillet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tillet! But no joy.
Home feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Tillets jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Home throws a big shot that misses.

Tillet manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Home on his heels. He'll look to pass Home's guard now, I'm sure.

Home uses the cage to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
New Home is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Home throws an overhand right that lands on Tillet's shoulder, as Tillet tries to avoid the shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Home, as that shot connected.
Home moves in looking to clinch but Tillet pushes him off.

Home gets caught flat footed, as Tillet shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tillet landing with the ground and pound.
Tillet postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Home is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Home trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tillet looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Tillet throws a big right hand that misses.
Tillet has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Icon Sport Laboratories. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Home has momentary wrist control but Tillet slips an elbow through the middle.

Home is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tillet working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Home has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Tillet has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tillet changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Home fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Home throws out a loose jab but Tillet uses good head movement to avoid it.
Home jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Tillet shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Home manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tillet distracts Home with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Home is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tillet is in close to Home's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Home knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tillet on the ground.
Home wants to get back to his feet but Tillet is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Tillet is working Home over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Home is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tillet works over Home with some ground and pound from guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tillet throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Tillet trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tillet works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Tillet working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Home is rocked!
Home is in trouble now - Tillet has advanced to mount!
Home is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Tillet cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Oh Home is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Home is trying to stand.
Tillet lands a big shot to the head and Home winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Maurice Tillet! Maurice Tillet retains his welterweight title!
Maurice Tillet seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
