PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tom Finn (ranked 3077 p4p, 2414 weight class) and Seamus Murphy (ranked 195 p4p, 158 weight class). Murphy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Molly Malone- The Dubliners. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Finn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Seamus Murphy!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Finn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Murphy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Murphy has his foot on Finn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Finn works his way back into a safe position though.
Finn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Finn postures up.

Murphy looking for a guillotine here but Finn defends easily.

Murphy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Murphy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Murphy might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Finn haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Murphy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Finn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Finn scoring with some ground and pound.
Finn is working Murphy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Finn chips away with some ground and pound.
Finn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Murphy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Finn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Finn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Murphy trying to keep a closed guard but Finn is proving a slippery customer.

Murphy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Finn is aware though and is defending well.
Murphy wants to hit a sweep here but Finn passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Murphy there!
Murphy felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Murphy is trying to escape the mount.

Finn trying to control but Murphy is having none of it.
Murphy tries to lock up and control but Finn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Finn postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Murphy looks a forlorn figure.
Finn prevents Murphy from getting the reversal.
Finn sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Murphy is looking to improve his position but Finn isn't that keen on the idea.

Murphy is still trying to improve position.
Finn controlling the pace for now.
Murphy takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Finn lands a nice shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Murphy manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Finn in particular looking to stall.
Finn prevents Murphy from improving his position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Murphy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Finn lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Murphy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Murphy.

Murphy looking for a triangle here. Finn is fighting it but it looks tight! Murphy pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Finn is tapping out - this one is all over!
