PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tama Ruiha (ranked 623 p4p, 688 weight class) and David Scott (ranked 88 p4p, 101 weight class). Ruiha comes into the arena with Polynesian Traditional Music blaring out of the sound system. Tama Ruiha could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to David Scott's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Tama Ruiha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, David Scott!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiha uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Scott.
Ruiha definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Scott throws a sloppy body shot
and Ruiha counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Scott thinking.
Ruiha goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Scott has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Scott lands a nice shot to the body.
Ruiha will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ruiha swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Scott clinches up with Ruiha and pushes him back against the cage.
Scott tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ruiha smiles and moves away.
Ruiha misses with a looping right.
Ruiha pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Scott back to the cage. Ruiha follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Scott lands a nice hook to Ruiha's body. Ruiha takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Scott closes the distance and clinches.

Ruiha pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Scott darts in looking for a takedown but Ruiha gets double underhooks and turns Scott into the cage.
Ruiha looks to land a left hand but Scott moved out of range nicely.
Ruiha tries to move into range but Scott moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Scott is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ruiha's half guard.
Ruiha tries to kick Scott off in order to stand up. Scott Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ruiha wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Ruiha tries to escape back to his feet but Scott has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Ruiha's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Ruiha is tapping! Scott saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). David Scott!
