Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brett Keane (ranked 1650 p4p, 1429 weight class) and Genkei Takahashi (ranked 178 p4p, 155 weight class). Genkei Takahashi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brett Keane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Genkei Takahashi! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Keane looks to land a right hand but Takahashi moved out of range. Keane loads up on a big right hand but Takahashi slips the punch. Takahashi bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Keane's head. Takahashi has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Takahashi there as he acknowledges the shot. Brett Keane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Takahashi sizes up Keane with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Keane misses with a shot to the body and Takahashi counters with a leg kick. Keane misses with an uppercut
and Takahashi counters with a takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Keane is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Takahashi asserts his dominance and retains side control. Keane taking a bit of punishment here - Takahashi scoring with strikes. Takahashi scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Keane to see if he's OK. Keane sneaks out the side door and pushes Takahashi away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Keane paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Keane scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Takahashi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Keane's guard. Keane being controlled here, momentarily. Keane wants to get back to his feet but Takahashi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Takahashi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Keane's guard. Keane wants to get back to his feet. Keane has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Takahashi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Keane looks like he's trying to stand up.

Takahashi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Keane tries to kick Takahashi off but Takahashi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Takahashi keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Nice strikes from Takahashi there. Takahashi is keen to just control but Keane is a slippery customer. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Takahashi is figuring out what he wants to do next. Takahashi lands with a punch from half guard. Keane is looking to escape. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Takahashi connects with a nice short shot to Keane's temple. Takahashi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Keane is not content to let Takahashi control the position. Keane pushes Takahashi off looking to stand but Takahashi dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Takahashi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Takahashi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Takahashi moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Keane misses the shot to the body. Takahashi throws a front kick that sends Keane stumbling back into the cage. A clash of legs there as Keane blocks the low kick. Takahashi defending well as Keane loads up on a big left hand. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Genkei Takahashi dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Takahashi cracks Keane with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Takahashi motions for Keane to come forward. Takahashi throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Takahashi has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Keane misses with a hook. Takahashi scores with a jab. Keane swings for the body but Takahashi moves out of range.
Takahashi tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Keane throws a body punch but Takahashi moves out of range. Keane throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Takahashi counters with a lovely straight right hand! Keane throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Takahashi sees it coming and avoids it easily. Keane throws out a loose jab but Takahashi uses good head movement to avoid it. A swing and a miss from Keane. Takahashi moves out of range of the strikes. Keane misses with an uppercut
and Takahashi counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. The fighters circling - Keane throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Takahashi with a nice calf kick. Both fighters circling a little - Takahashi finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Keane takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Takahashi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Keane manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Takahashi is stalling in the full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Takahashi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The fighters circling - Keane throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Nice defenses there by Takahashi. Keane has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Takahashi. Takahashi lands a head kick. Keane smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Takahashi's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Keane connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Takahashi scrambles back to his feet. Genkei Takahashi seems to be getting the better of the standup. Keane swings away with a body shot that misses
and Takahashi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Keane's guard.
Keane is rocked! Takahashi stays in close to Keane's body and controls the position. Oh Keane is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Takahashi lands a couple of elbows. Takahashi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Takahashi stops Keane from standing up. Takahashi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Takahashi won't allow Keane to get back to his feet. Takahashi is pushing down on Keane's leg trying to pass to half guard. Keane is fighting to maintain full guard but Takahashi has managed to sneak the leg through. Takahashi controlling the action here. Takahashi winds up and cracks Keane with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Still in half guard, Takahashi seems content to control. Takahashi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Keane defends it well. Takahashi performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Takahashi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Keane seems to have got his legs back now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Takahashi slips a nice elbow through Keane's hands, connecting with Keane's forehead.

Takahashi lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Takahashi content to control rather than advance. Takahashi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Keane has managed to free his arm - good work. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Genkei Takahashi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round! Keane misses with a hook. Takahashi ducked under it nicely. Keane takes a shot right to the bread basket. A momentary lapse in concentration from Keane enables Takahashi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Keane manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Keane pushes Takahashi off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Keane throws an overhand right that lands on Takahashi's shoulder, as Takahashi tries to avoid the shot. Takahashi slips under a jab. Takahashi feints the counter takedown. Keane missing with a left hand there. Takahashi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Takahashi lands a jab to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Takahashi ducks under a wild hook from Keane. Takahashi works the jab nicely. A jab from Keane misses. Keane gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Takahashi gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

A very excited looking Genkei Takahashi made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
