PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kill Shot Jackson (ranked 1762 p4p, 2011 weight class) and Alex Deigos (ranked 240 p4p, 273 weight class). Alex Deigos told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Kill Shot Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Deigos!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deigos takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Deigos avoids the head kick by Jackson.

Jackson clinches up with Deigos and pushes him back against the cage.
Jackson misses with a knee strike.
Jackson working Deigos over with knees to the body.
Jackson connects with a knee to the head.

Jackson gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Deigos is not content to let Jackson control the position.
Jackson content to control rather than advance.
Deigos is looking to escape.
Jackson wants to control but Deigos is keeping him busy.
Jackson wants to free his trapped foot but Deigos is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Deigos wants to get back to his feet.
Deigos felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Jackson shoots in but no luck this time.
A little jabbing left from Deigos on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jackson wants to clinch.
Alex Deigos is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Deigos keeps the fight on the outside.
Jackson defending well as Deigos loads up on a big left hand.
Jackson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A slow jab from Deigos misses its intended target.
Deigos lands the left hand.
Jackson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Deigos swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Deigos throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jackson sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Deigos counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jackson thinking.
Jackson tries to clinch but Deigos is having none of it.

Deigos connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Deigos gets tackled into the cage by Jackson. Jackson maintains the clinch.
Deigos is trying to force a seperation but Jackson has the dominant position.
Deigos avoiding damage as Jackson throws knees to the body.
Jackson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Deigos gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Deigos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alex Deigos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Deigos fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Deigos moves out of range of the body kick.

and Deigos counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Jackson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Jackson doesn't manage to clinch there - Deigos circles away.
Deigos looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Jackson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Deigos.

Jackson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Deigos.

Deigos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Deigos thuds a left hand into Jackson's body.
A combination from Deigos does no damage.
Jackson moves away from the strike by Deigos.
Jackson misses with a head kick.
Deigos cracks Jackson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

It looks like Kill Shot Jackson has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Deigos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jackson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Jackson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Deigos.

Jackson seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Jackson lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Deigos missing with a left hand there. Jackson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jackson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

The fight stays on the outside here - Jackson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Deigos misses with a body shot.
Jackson tries a head kick but it misses.
Jackson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Deigos throws out the jab.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Deigos throws a shot from downtown. Jackson moves away and avoids it.
Jackson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Jackson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Deigos smiles and moves away.
Deigos throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Jackson tries to move into range but Deigos moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Jackson throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Deigos's head.
Jackson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Deigos.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

As Deigos tries to get set, Jackson tries to push him back and clinch up but Deigos manages to avoid the attempt.
Deigos throws the left hand but Jackson avoids the punch easily.
Deigos throws out a loose jab but Jackson uses good head movement to avoid it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Deigos missing with a left hand there. Jackson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Deigos misses with a hook. Jackson ducked under it nicely.
Deigos throws a hook to the side of Jackson's head but Jackson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Deigos circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jackson clinches.
Deigos tries to break free but Jackson pushes him back against the cage.

Deigos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Deigos might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Jackson ducks under a wild hook from Deigos.

Jackson closes the distance and pushes Deigos back into the cage.

Jackson pulls guard successfully.
Jackson has a closed guard, preventing Deigos from standing up.
Deigos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Deigos is posturing up here but Jackson has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Deigos tries to roll out but it's too tight and Deigos has to tap! Slick submission there by Jackson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kill Shot Jackson!
