PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kong Cavallier (ranked 4165 p4p, 4379 weight class) and Jay Letts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cavallier's entrance music is he Young Punx - Ready For The Fight. A fine choice. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kong Cavallier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Letts!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cavallier fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Letts feints a counter leg kick.
Cavallier rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Letts moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Letts misses with a body shot.
Letts shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cavallier but Cavallier pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Letts looks to land a combination. Cavallier sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Cavallier moves into the clinch successfully.
Letts has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cavallier is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Letts tries to circle away but Cavallier has him pinned against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Letts wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Cavallier's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cavallier takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Letts slaps away a takedown attempt from Cavallier, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Letts tries to clinch there but Cavallier circles away.
Letts tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cavallier sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Letts somewhat.
Cavallier swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Kong Cavallier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Letts.
Cavallier staying out of range there.
Letts tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cavallier swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Cavallier shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Letts looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Cavallier thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Letts's head.
Letts has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cavallier is working away from the top position though.

Cavallier wants to stand up but Letts is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Letts looks like he's trying to stand up.
Letts is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cavallier throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Cavallier lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Letts is trying to control but can't.
Letts is controlling Cavallier's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Letts is trying to get back to full guard.
Letts trying to control from the bottom.
Cavallier missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Letts pushes Cavallier off and gets back to his feet.
Cavallier scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Letts shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cavallier holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Letts goes for a takedown attempt but Cavallier pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Letts fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kong Cavallier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cavallier moves into the clinch successfully.
Letts tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cavallier avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cavallier working Letts over with knees to the body.
Letts jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cavallier walks away with a smile on his face. Letts gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Letts throws the left hand but Cavallier avoids the punch easily.
Letts slaps away a takedown attempt from Cavallier, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cavallier shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cavallier is breathing heavily.

Cavallier gets a double leg takedown into Letts's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Letts trying to control the position.
We've been hearing that Cavallier has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Cavallier got a little sloppy there for a moment and Letts has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cavallier has managed to get both his arms back between Letts's legs - danger averted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Cavallier's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Letts working hard to break the clinch.

Cavallier gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

It looks like Jay Letts has been cut.

Cavallier shoots in for a double leg but Letts sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Letts on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Cavallier misses with an elbow over the top.
Letts looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Letts is trying to drag Cavallier to the mat but Cavallier just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Cavallier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kong Cavallier is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cavallier gets a double leg takedown into Letts's guard.
Cavallier is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Letts can do to turn this around?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Letts pulls Cavallier in close to prevent any damage.
Letts is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Letts shoots in for a double leg but Cavallier sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cavallier avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Letts gets caught napping as Cavallier dives in and scores a takedown. Letts manages to retain guard.
Cavallier scoring with punches to the head and body.
Letts looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cavallier is one step ahead there.
Cavallier passes Letts's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Letts tries to get to full guard but Cavallier has control of the leg.

Letts can't find room to land a body shot as Cavallier controls the action.

Cavallier breaks from the clinch.
Letts tries to close the distance and clinch but Cavallier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Letts closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cavallier circles away.

and Letts counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Letts ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cavallier moves away.
A quick step to the side and Cavallier tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cavallier buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Letts looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Letts closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cavallier circles away.
Cavallier is looking to counter the offense by Letts and move into the clinch.
Cavallier slaps away a takedown attempt from Letts, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Cavallier moves into the clinch.
Letts is looking to control Cavallier's arms but Cavallier gets an underhook and turns him. Now Letts has his back to the cage.
With the fighters up against the cage, Letts throws an elbow but misses.
Cavallier throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Letts blocks it with crossed arms.

Cavallier is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Letts can't fight it off and eventually Cavallier manages to take the fight to the floor. Letts looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Letts is pulling down on Cavallier's head to control his posture.

Letts looking for a sweep. Not yet Letts, not yet.
Letts keeping full guard, as Cavallier tries to pass.
Letts is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cavallier is controlling him.
Letts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cavallier manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Letts pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cavallier is keeping the position for now.

Letts stands up from Cavallier's guard - Letts perhaps looking for a knockout.
Cavallier stuffs the takedown.
Letts fails with an attempt to clinch.
Letts shoots in for a takedown but Cavallier shows good takedown defense.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Letts tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cavallier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Letts dodges the punch combination from Cavallier.
Letts lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kong Cavallier showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cavallier has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
