PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Hayze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Will Hayze!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayze tries to clinch but Pain moves out of range.
Hayze is looking to clinch.
Hayze misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hayze shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pain as he jumps to the side.
Pain avoids the body shot from Hayze.
Hayze shoots in but Pain avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnny Pain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Hayze.
A head kick misses from Hayze.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pain scores with a takedown into Hayze's guard.
Hayze wants to sweep here but Pain controlling him for the moment.
Hayze being controlled here, momentarily.

Pain trying to control but Hayze is working from the bottom.
Hayze tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pain wants to pass the guard but Hayze is keeping the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pain seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hayze for as long as he can get away with.
Pain has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Pain trying to control the position from guard on top but Hayze is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hayze looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hayze not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hayze lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pain!

Hayze swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Pain is now in Hayze's guard. A big mistake from Hayze there, giving up the dominant position!
Pain is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hayze keeping moving, preventing Pain from controlling successfully.
Hayze controls Pain momentarily but Pain frees himself.
Pain could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pain is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Pain dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pain gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Hayze counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hayze seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Pain might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hayze thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pain's head.
Hayze wants to control but Pain is keeping him busy.
Hayze is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Pain!
Pain tries to lock up and control but Hayze gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hayze trying to control but Pain is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hayze landing shots from mount.
Hayze throws some wild stikes that Pain manages to avoid easily.
Pain is trying to escape the mount.
Hayze avoids the attempt from Pain to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hayze misses with a head shot.
Pain is trying to escape the mount.
Pain holds on, trying desperately to control.

Hayze goes for an armbar but Pain turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Pain.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hayze can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pain controls the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Johnny Pain just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Pain closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hayze to the mat! Hayze manages to get full guard.
Hayze working a defensive guard but Pain passes into half guard.
Pain controlling the action here.
Hayze controlling the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pain works his foot free and advances to mount.
Pain tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Will Hayze will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Pain drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pain wants to pass the guard but Hayze is keeping the position.
Pain controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hayze manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Pain is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hayze cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Pain tries to hold on but Hayze pushes him away.
Pain is squirming around, avoiding Hayze's attempts to control the action.
Hayze landing shots from mount.
Pain wants to control but Hayze is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pain keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hayze working the ground and pound effectively.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hayze wants to control the pace but Pain is squirming around nicely.
Hayze controlling from the full mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hayze avoids the attempt from Pain to control.
Hayze throwing strikes but Pain bucks up and reverses the position. He's now in guard on top.
Hayze looking to sit in guard and control but Pain gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hayze is trying to control the position but Pain postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hayze wants to sweep here but Pain controlling him for the moment.
Pain pushing down on Hayze's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Pain seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johnny Pain.
Well Pain has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
