Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yves Marchant (ranked 2816 p4p, 3771 weight class) and Nikolai Tsavieva (ranked 351 p4p, 448 weight class). Marchant comes to the cage accompanied by gandagana. Nikolai Tsavieva told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nikolai Tsavieva!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tsavieva misses with an uppercut.
Marchant half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Marchant dives in for a single leg takedown but Tsavieva sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Tsavieva works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Marchant throws his legs up looking for a submission but Tsavieva uses it to pass to side control.
Tsavieva tries to stand but Marchant is controlling his head.
Marchant tries to improve position but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marchant sneaks back into half guard.

Marchant has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tsavieva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Marchant throws his legs up looking for a submission but Tsavieva uses it to pass to side control.
Tsavieva wants to stand but Marchant is controlling his arm.
Marchant is looking to regain half guard here but Tsavieva keeps moving and retains side control.
Tsavieva tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Marchant sneaks back into half guard.
Marchant is looking to improve his position.

Marchant is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

Tsavieva wants to stand but Marchant is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Tsavieva prevents Marchant from getting the reversal.

Tsavieva throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Marchant sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A left lands for Tsavieva.
It looks like Yves Marchant has been cut.

Marchant shoots in but Tsavieva avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Marchant fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It seemed like Tsavieva was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yves Marchant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marchant takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Tsavieva misses with a lunging right hand
and Marchant decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tsavieva's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Marchant avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Nikolai Tsavieva dominated that round.

Tsavieva scores with a jab to the head.
Marchant closes the distance and clinches up with Tsavieva, looking for a takedown. Marchant pushes Tsavieva against the cage but Tsavieva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Marchant looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tsavieva is fending him off so far but Marchant persists. Nope, Tsavieva circles away and we're back to standing.
Tsavieva has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Tsavieva gets caught napping as Marchant dives in and scores a takedown. Tsavieva manages to retain guard.
Tsavieva has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Marchant content to stall in guard here.

Marchant swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Tsavieva is now in Marchant's guard. A big mistake from Marchant there, giving up the dominant position!
Marchant has a closed guard, preventing Tsavieva from standing up.
Marchant looking for a sweep. Not yet Marchant, not yet.
Tsavieva wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Marchant's closed guard. He's half up but Marchant has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Marchant pivots and extends the arm, Tsavieva falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Marchant! Well done that man!
