PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Constantin Niculescu (ranked 2258 p4p, 2620 weight class) and James Rocksteady (ranked 301 p4p, 345 weight class). Rocksteady has chosen Red Right Hand as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Constantin Niculescu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Rocksteady!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Chris Edwards and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niculescu lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rocksteady keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Niculescu.
Rocksteady takes a shot to the body in his stride.
A swing and a miss from Niculescu.
Niculescu wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Rocksteady tries to clinch up but Niculescu circles away and keeps his distance.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rocksteady has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've been hearing good reports from Niculescu's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That was a close round but I would say that Constantin Niculescu will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

James Rocksteady showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Niculescu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
