PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conor MccGregor (ranked 24562 p4p, 4478 weight class) and Dustin Grey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Conor MccGregor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dustin Grey!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grey shoots in but MccGregor avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Grey slaps away a takedown attempt from MccGregor, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Grey throws out a counter right but MccGregor avoids it with no problem.
MccGregor shoots for a takedown but Grey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Despite the aggression on Grey's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Grey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from MccGregor.
Grey is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conor MccGregor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
MccGregor throws a wild body kick that Grey sees coming a mile off.
Grey swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Grey fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with MccGregor, pushing him back against the cage.
MccGregor drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Grey gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Grey pulls MccGregor in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MccGregor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Grey has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, MccGregor has managed to get both his arms back between Grey's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grey looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
MccGregor trying to control but Grey is working from the bottom.
MccGregor knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Grey on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Grey wants to sweep but no luck.
Grey is pulling down on MccGregor's head. It's preventing any offense from MccGregor, at least for the moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Grey has a closed guard, preventing MccGregor from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Grey clinches.
Grey drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Grey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Grey has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. MccGregor avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

MccGregor is trying to break the clinch but Grey is controlling him.
Grey has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. MccGregor is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Grey goes for a takedown attempt but MccGregor pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

MccGregor tries to clinch up but Grey circles away and keeps his distance.
Grey tries to counter with a clinch but MccGregor shakes him off and moves away.
MccGregor shoots in looking for a takedown but Grey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing MccGregor's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
MccGregor throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Grey's waist but Grey gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing MccGregor off to one side.
Grey tries to score a power double leg takedown but MccGregor sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Grey somewhat.

MccGregor doesn't manage to clinch there - Grey circles away.
Grey blocks a head kick by MccGregor.
MccGregor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Grey circles away quickly and effectively.

Grey forces MccGregor back against the cage and clinches.
Grey is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

MccGregor drags the fight down to the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Grey slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dustin Grey will probably get the nod.
That's time! MccGregor's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

MccGregor looks to score with a jab to the body but Grey is just out of range.
MccGregor dives in for a single leg takedown but Grey sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Grey tries to pull guard but MccGregor holds him up against the cage and eventually Grey drops back down to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

MccGregor has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Grey avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Grey wants to take the fight to the mat but MccGregor manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Grey prevents the takedown attempt.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Grey just misses with a elbow thrown towards MccGregor's brow.
MccGregor prevents Grey from breaking the clinch.

MccGregor tries to stall but Grey uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Grey is trying hard to land a takedown here. MccGregor sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
MccGregor tries to counter by clinching up but Grey breaks away and moves out of range.
Grey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. MccGregor tries to avoid it but Grey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag MccGregor to the ground. MccGregor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
MccGregor misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

MccGregor goes for a takedown in the clinch but Grey prevents it.
MccGregor drops down looking for an ankle pick but Grey pulls his leg out and moves away.

MccGregor is looking to control Grey's arms but Grey gets an underhook and turns him. Now MccGregor has his back to the cage.
The referee calls for Grey to work.

Grey breaks the clinch.
MccGregor shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Grey sprawls well. Grey wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. MccGregor gets slowly back to his feet.

Grey fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but MccGregor avoids it really well and circles away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dustin Grey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Grey darts in looking for a takedown but MccGregor gets double underhooks and turns Grey into the cage.
MccGregor is trying hard to land a takedown here. Grey sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Grey escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. MccGregor gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Grey manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Grey changes levels and goes for a takedown here. MccGregor fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Grey shoots and misses

and MccGregor counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by MccGregor.
Conor MccGregor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dustin Grey.

Grey jumps guard and drags MccGregor to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Grey is trying to control the position but MccGregor postures up.

Grey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

MccGregor drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Grey manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now MccGregor has Grey in his guard.

Grey loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Grey stands and throws MccGregor's legs to the side, diving into side control.

MccGregor tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Grey throwing strikes here but MccGregor is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Dustin Grey has got the better of the ground game so far.

Grey is working for a guillotine from mount but MccGregor frees his head quite easily.
MccGregor is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
MccGregor holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Grey tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

MccGregor is working to get back to half guard.
Grey takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Grey has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Grey has control of MccGregor's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and MccGregor regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Grey sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Dustin Grey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Grey winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
