This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 1 losses; Hatori Hanzo! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 3 losses; Kron Gracie! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and Richard Clark.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Hanzo closes the distance and pushes Gracie back into the cage. Hanzo has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gracie regains guard immediately. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Hanzo (2) vs (0) Gracie Hanzo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Hanzo's corner is telling him to maintain position. Gracie seems keen to control Hanzo's posture. Hanzo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie keeping full guard, as Hanzo tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hanzo sitting in guard, not really doing much. Hanzo tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie wants to sweep here but Hanzo controlling him for the moment. Gracie keeps trying to improve his position. That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hanzo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gracie controlling the position. Hanzo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Hanzo wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Hanzo is refusing to be controlled, as Gracie sits in half guard.

Hanzo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hanzo tries to get out of the position. Gracie moves into full mount! Hanzo won't be happy about that! Score +3 for passing guard: Hanzo (2) vs (5) Gracie Hanzo is squirming around, avoiding Gracie's attempts to control the action.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Hanzo is in all sorts of trouble here.
Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. My spies in HELLCADEMY inform me that Gracie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
That's six minutes gone in the round. Gracie wants to control the pace but Hanzo is squirming around nicely.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Gracie controlling from mount. Hanzo is trying to escape the mount but Gracie keeps good control and instead manages to take Hanzo's back.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Hanzo trying to control but not successfully. Hanzo is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Hanzo is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gracie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. It looks like Gracie might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Hanzo just looking to survive in the bad position.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Hanzo just trying to survive but Gracie is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Gracie controls the action. Hanzo tries to break free.

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Gracie has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Hanzo's body.
Let's hope that Gracie has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Well, with Gracie on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Hanzo is tapping out... Can he escape the position? Hanzo trying to control the position but Gracie manages to sink in the hooks. Gracie trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Hanzo doesn't escape.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Hanzo defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! We've been hearing good reports from Hanzo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Gracie just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
And that's the end of the fight! Gracie wins on points by 8 to 2. Kron Gracie is the new middleweight champion! The defeated Hatori Hanzo had this to say: 'I got a white belt what'd yall expect'. |
